Maid agents are looking to Sri Lanka for maids in order to make up for the shortfall in supply from countries such as Indonesia.
According to The Straits Times, the Sri Lanka High Commission will meet with representatives from the Associations of Employment Agencies (Singapore) and officials from the Foreign Employment Bureau in Sri Lanka to discuss plans about recruitment.
The daily added that at least seven agents plan to bring in more Sri Lankan maids this year. These agents hope that by doing this, it will counter the shortfall in the number of maids from Indonesia.
On May 1, the Indonesian government introduced policy changes which led to Indonesian recruiters earning less in placement fees.
According to statistics from the Sri Lankan High Commission, it expects the number of Sri Lankan maids to go up to 6,000 by the middle of next year.
There are currently about 4,500 Sri Lankan maids in Singapore now.
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment said that starting from June 1, maids going to work in Singapore must be paid a minimum of $400 a month. They were previously paid $325.
Maids from Indonesia and the Philippines are paid an average of about $450 a month.

Nine activists of India s Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) were arrested on Saturday when they attempted to burn an effigy of Sri Lankan Minister Champika Ranawaka in Coimbatore, protesting against his alleged warning of a backlash against Tamils in the island.
The activists raised slogans against the Power and Energy Minister and also the Sri Lankan Government for allegedly continuing attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen, police said.
Police took them into custody and foiled the attempt to burn the effigy. - PTI

This is 43% profits.
If a budget airline at this age profits that much, That is simply NOT unbelievable, I can not say it is unbelievable.
It is cooked up figures.
Some American financial companies showed high profit balance sheets when, actually, they were losing money. Probably, they may not have included some figures in order to calculate this profit.
This is a lie. |

Are all these dead people are Maids. If so, that is a very large number.
Maids are young people, how can there be 318 natural death, how did they conclude that those were natural deaths.
Eight Sri Lankans committed suicide, 89 were killed in accidents and 318 died of natural deaths while working overseas last year, according to a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) report submitted to Parliament last Tuesday.
The majority of the 417 deaths took place in Saudi Arabia. Some 87 Sri Lankan workers died there while 48 died in Kuwait and 30 in Qatar, the report says.
Pointing out that the next of kin of a Sri Lankan worker who dies in a foreign country is entitled to receive compensation, salary dues, gratuity and insurance payments, the report claims that the Ministry last year collected about Rs. 180 million in compensation from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon and the Republic of Korea.
