Sri Lanka's budget carrier Mihin Lanka loses over US$ 18 million last year
Jun 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka's budget airline ended in red again last year with the losses amounting to US$ 18.6 million, a government report showed.
The annual report of the Ministry of Civil Aviation for the year 2011 presented in the parliament on Friday said Mihin Lanka's performance was affected due to the steep increase in fuel prices by 30 percent.
The Ministry report said Mihin Lanka, however, could not increase air fares to set off the increase in fuel costs as it had to maintain its competitiveness with several other low cost carriers operating to the same destinations.
'In these circumstances, Mihin Lanka has endeavoured to continue provide affordable air travel by reduce costs in all other areas of operations with a view to minimizing its losses,' the report noted.
The budget airline operated 1443 flights in 2011 while maintaining load factors of 75% on its flights as opposed to 868 flights operated in 2010.
In 2011 Mihin operated to 9 destinations with 27 flights per week to Kuwait, Dubai and Sharjah in the Middle East, Bodhgaya and Varanasi in India, Maldives, Bangladesh and Indonesia. |

He is a former soldier from Sinhala regiment, after that he was managing his plantations. |

Why law isn't applied for Raja's brother-in-law the same way it was applied for SF ?
All gifts and money from his children in Australia.
Despite the police initially saying that among the items stolen from his home two weeks ago was foreign currency to the value of over Rs. 4 million, police spokesman S.P Ajith Rohana now says most of the money stolen from the house was not foreign currency.
Police will say soon that just only Rs5000 stolen. |

He was a tea planter for life, even could not finish his basic education.
