UNP in new internal battle over SF

Wednesday, 13 June 2012 - 8:36 AM SL Time

UNP Puttalam District MP Range Bandara yesterday reacted angrily after being advised by the party`s National Organiser Daya Gamage not to keep company of Democratic National Alliance (DNA) leader, General Sarath Fonseka.

Party sources told The Island that Bandara had retorted that he couldn`t abandon Gen. Fonseka to appease the likes of Gamage. Bandara said that General Fonseka wasn`t an ordinary leader but a true patriot acceptable to all.

MP Bandara told `The Island` that he wouldn`t give up his association with the former army commander at the dictates of others.

Asked whether he was on a collision course with Bandara, Gamage said that the party had no objection to the MP having a relationship with anyone, though he shouldn`t forget that their leader was Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Close on the heels of Gen. Fonseka`s release, the Chief Opposition Whip, John Amaratunga, MP, alleged that a section of the party was trying to promote the former army chief.

I honestly believe that Ranil is a liability to UNP and he should leave UNP leader post.

No Indian athlete is going bare footed to compete in an international Sports event. The Indians may be pooping openly in their country but they are not internationally humiliated like this. :))))

Chinese walker hailed for act of sportsmanship at Asian junior athletics championships

COLOMBO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Sportsmanship was displayed at the ongoing 15th Asian Junior Athletics Championships when a young Chinese walker presented his new pair of shoes to Sri Lankan runner who walked bare-footed on Tuesday.

Zhang Zhi, who took bronze in the 10,000-meter race walking in 45 minutes 05 seconds, gave his shoes to D. W. Pradeep Madushanka who was two laps behind him and completed at ninth.

'I was so touched by his generous act of giving a new pair of shoes which he had worn only for this event,' Madushanka told Xinhua with a sense of gratitude.

'One reason for me to run bear foot was that I did not have a good pair of shoes,' said Madushanka, a soldier coming from a rural village of Tissamaharamaya in southern Sri Lanka.

Madushanka is one of the soldiers from the army competing at the Asian Junior Athletic Championships.
The spectators witnessed Zhang removed his shoes as soon as he completed the race and handed them over to the Sri Lankan runner.

'This is genuine display of real sportsmanship that serves the meaning of sports,' said a technical officer.
India's Kuldeep won the gold in 45:01 while Japan's Matsunaga Daisuke grabbed the silver.

China tops the medal tally with a total of 17 medals including 10 gold, five silver and two bronze while Chinese Taipei follows with 13 medals.

The four-day event will conclude on Tuesday evening with a grand closing ceremony.

The rooms had been booked for the President s security. Each room has been allocated to the families of SLFP members residing in the UK.

Silly Lanka - 'Land like no other' :))))LOL

CSN owned by president Rajapaksa's sons - Sri Lanka Cricket

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has admitted that Carlton Sports Network (CSN), who it awarded television rights to for three years, is owned by Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa's sons.

However, president of SLC Upali Dharmadasa told BBC Sinhala the cricket board did not award CSN local television rights to broadcast cricket matches because the channel was owned by the president's sons.

'Are we supposed to reject a company because it is an organisation owned by the president's sons,' Dharmadasa asked.

Dharmadasa insisted the deal between CSN and SLC was struck without any political influence and that proper tender procedure was followed. He also revealed that CSN agreed to pay more than the actual bid price they offered in their tender after SLC held discussions with the channel.

'One reason for me to run bear foot was that I did not have a good pair of shoes,' said Madushanka, a soldier coming from a rural village of Tissamaharamaya in southern Sri Lanka.

Isn't it touching to see thivya is concerned about the feet of an ex army athlete. Few years back the same thivya was donating all her money to kill or seriously maim the same soldiers.. FYI thivya, there are many in wheelchairs today who doesn't have the need for shoes because your money paid for anti personal mines to maim these same soldiers.

All thivya got nowadays is 'Dumpster Diving' for a living. btw Where are all the wethamiza wet backs?? They should all be entered in the swimming contest at the Olympics, they are all bound to win GOLD.

Btw... if we had a competent Sports Minister who knew what he was doing this kind of thing would not be happening to our Athletes.. The Sports Minster need a very large boot up his backside himself, this fool should be kicked out forthwith imo, he's a national disgrace that we can well do without.
