Lankan housemaids in demand - Wimal
Sri Lankan housemaids are in demand in foreign countries. The housemaids have earned a good name for themselves, especially among employers in the Middle East, due to their compassion and hard work which they have derived from the free education and Buddhist culture, Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.
The minister was addressing a ceremony where pre-school equipment were distributed among pre-schools in Hokandara.
Housemaids are provided by many countries including African countries. But our housemaids have been able to win the hearts of their employers as they have acted cleverly and confidently. Sri Lankan housemaids take swift and timely action during an emergency whereas housemaids from other countries wait for orders from their employers, Weerawansa said.
The free education in Sri Lanka prepared our women to think practically and take swift action safeguarding lives. Sri Lankan housemaids look after children with love and compassion and they are popular for their hospitality. This has also become a reason for their demand, he said. The minister said pre- school teachers shoulder a great responsibility in making children good and bringing them up with discipline.
