Sri Lanka s Permanent Representative in Geneva. Tamara Kunanayakam said yesterday that she had been kept in the dark by the External Affairs Ministry regarding its preparations for the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session scheduled for this month.
The session will start on June 18 and go on till the end of the first week of July. Though Sri Lanka s issue is not officially listed to be taken up at this time, the Ambassador said, NGOs and international groups interested in the matter were likely to campaign against the country. (Kelum Bandara)

Jun 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka police have started a probe on a Buddhist monk who allegedly traveled on the Southern Expressway without paying the due toll.
The police said the Buddhist monk had entered the Southern expressway on June 09 and exited the highway without paying the due fee.
The Buddhist monk has allegedly threatened the officials of the Road Development Board, the police said.
Police further say that no such incident was ever reported previously since the Southern Expressway was opened in November of last year. |
