Interpol help sought in Tricomalee murder case
June 6, 2012 02:01 pm Police today said it has sought assistance from INTERPOL to apprehend the chief suspect in the recent murder of a 28-year-old first-class cricketer in Tricomalee.
Two suspects involved in the murder have already been arrested while information has been uncovered that the chief suspect, the victim s wife, is currently residing in abroad, police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana stated.
Therefore we will be working in cooperation with INTERPOL in order to arrest her, he said.
Eshwaradasan Ketheeswaran, 28, was killed on the night of April 14 on Ayyanar Keni Street in Trincomalee. His throat was slit with a knife.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had conducted investigation into the murder and two suspects, aged 30 and 26, were arrested today morning.
The 30-year-old suspect, who is said to be a pilot, had developed an illicit relationship with the victim s wife during a visit to England.
It was later uncovered that the wife gave the suspect a 1750 contract to kill her husband, a resident of Trincomalee who was also a cricketer, police media unit said.
Both arrested suspects are said to be men from Colombo and are to be produced at Trincomalee Magistrate s Court while INTERPOL is scheduled to issue red alert for the woman s arrest.
