Sri Lanka opposition legislator wanted for assault surrenders to police

An opposition party legislator of Sri Lanka wanted for assaulting a man surrendered to the police today.
Ratnapura District United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Dunesh Gankanda, who was wanted for assaulting a 41-year-old businessman and biting his nose at a Colombo night club Saturday night, surrendered to the Colpetty police today.
The assault left the businessman hospitalized at the Colombo National Hospital.
The MP was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate`s court today and released on a Rs. 30,000 cash bail with two sureties of Rs. 100,000 each.
The case is scheduled to be heard on August 23rd.
