If you are a Sri Lankan citizen you must be able to go and buy the properties from anywhere. I m not talking about the forced settlements, I m talking about the freedom for a Sri Lankan to live anywhere in this country.
Gota is dead right on this. All minority communities should come to grips with the fact that SL is for all communities to live where-ever they wish.
However there should be strong legislation and enforcement to ensure minorities are treated with equal rights. In any country this can be tough but GOSL should work to achieve this.
Or else there will be another war down the road...

EM,
You are 1000% correct. Despite repeated attempts yet Wickeya cannot get rid of that image.
I asked him to remove the amude and look at a mirror and still he sees Eelam and not seen his missing Lingam that was bitten off during childhood.
This reality of Eelam is in the subconscious minds of many.
But EM, I doubt whether it is the fear or reverence that is permanently engraved in this poor fellows mind? |

Poos,
Gota is dead right on this. All minority communities should come to grips with the fact that SL is for all communities to live where-ever they wish.
You know these sinhala politicians create and issue and then when cornered coming out with an answer.
Never..ever..Tamils anywhere objected to sinhalese or any one buying property in the north and to do business. What they always and still object is only for government organised sinhala colonisation and that too not for the well being of the poor Sinhalese but to alter the demography and weaken their political power.
They talk soooo much about Dollar and Kent farm and the killing that took place by the LTTE. Do you know who those Sinhala settlers were? They were serving prison terms and ex-convicts and a Buddist Clergy there only selected able bodied Sinhala Buddists only and they were intended to fight and bully the Tamils around that area. But sadly many do not know the truth and the GOSL are a bunch of bloody liars and racists.
In addition no one can deny the fact that they settle sinhalese in areas in between districts and provinces in order to break the continuity of Tamil areas.
But these guys never admit this and they are very very famous for denying and lying. They must realise that tamils are not ready to believe their nonsense because they have learnt a bitter lesson over a period of time.
Let me clear that tamils never denied people to come there.
Even the 'Thesavalamai Law' is wrongly interpreted by the GOSL. It is only to protect the neighours in the event of some one selling a plot of land or property. |

Another set of rouges:
I am a retired doctor. I went to a private hospital in Colombo for a general checkup.
It cost me nearly Rs 4000.
An MBBS doctor looked at my chest x-ray and said I have a shadow in the left lung and asked me to get a Filaria blood test done and also referred me to a Cardiologist to get an Echo -cardiogram
done.
This cost me another Rs 2800.
The Cardiologist did the Echo-Cardiogram and said my heart is normal.
He never looked at my ECG or X-ray.
When I asked him about the lung shadow he said I can go to 'Dr.So and So' at Durdans and that he dealt with only the heart. I was too shocked to speak.
He said he could do a Treadmill Test, which again tests the heart. When I asked the doctor how much it cost he said Rs 2800.
The irony is that he had already said that my heart was normal.
This doctor would have got part of the money if I got this test done.
I am not sure whether he realized I was a doctor or he thought I was a fool.
They are so greedy. I cannot imagine how they must be taking money from lay people.
I told the Cardiologist point blank that they knew how to fleece people and left without getting the Treadmill Test (which I did not need) done.
Thank you for reading this letter. I will never go to this private hospital situated in Colombo 3 again.
It is such a shameless place.
We were taught at Medical School to treat the whole patient and not to treat them organ by organ
like they do at some of the private hospitals.
Indra Rajapakse
Retired doctor.

Private hospitals are a very good thing as they enable important and uptodate procedures at a fraction of a cost of overseas. However I too have bitter experience of them ripping unsuspecting patients off.
Health care is so different from other industries. It involves life and death so patients are likely to mortgage their valuables to do what a doctor precribes. Here in lies the problem. Are all those tests so neccessary? Does the doctor get a cut?
Many of of channeled doctors are money machines. One famous doctor is supposed to be making Rs 25000 for a 4 hr stint as hundreds of patients line up for him. Hospitals collect commision too. But many a time a chair is not available for a patient to sit and some doctors resent patients asking questions.
On 2 occasions at Navaloka I detected the discharging patient being charged for medicine that was not given to him but instead ended up in nursing staffs locker. At the Ratnams, a dying relation of mine was given 2 shots at Rs 7500.00 each( 16 yrs ago) but the patient has already died when the 2nd injection was run through its in house pharmacy. Families get so distraught when loved ones die the dont check last minute bills and hospitals capitalize on that. I am sure this happens in every private hospital every single day.
Now comes the all important question. What does the government do to curtail these unscupolous practises? Do they have sufficient legislation to protect patients'rights?
Do they randomly test their drugs for authenticity? Do they make sure 'hippocratic Oath' is being honoured by using undercover patients? Do they carry out regular inspections to ensure standards? Do they audit books of the hospital and these so called famous doctors?
This is one of the key responsibilities of any governemnt To protect patients' rights while not killing the industry.
Or is the Minister and his government busy doing other things like keynote speeches at 5 star hotels?
