President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday completed 42 years since becoming a Parliamentarian, having first entered Parliament as its youngest MP in 1970. President Rajapaksa was elected a Member of Parliament for the Beliatta electorate at the May 27, 1970 general election.
He succeeded his father D A Rajapaksa to Parliament and represented the same electorate his father did from his first election in 1947. He was the Labour and Vocational Training and Fisheries Minister in the Cabinet from 1994 to 2001.He also held the portfolio of the Ports and Shipping in addition to Fisheries, for three months. He was the Opposition Leader from 2002 to 2004.
He was chosen as the 13th Prime Minister in April 2004.
He had by then risen to the position of Senior Vice President of the SLFP.
From the time he was chosen Prime Minister in April 2004 till his election as President, he also held the Highways portfolio.
He became the country s fifth Executive President in 2005 .
He was elected for a second term of office at the January 26, 2010 Presidential Election with Sri Lanka recognising him as the national leader who liberated the country from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and set the country on the path to peace and rapid economic development.
Mahinda Rajapaksa was first elected President of Sri Lanka in 2005 on a wide-ranging and largely people-oriented policy as laid out in the Mahinda Chintana.
He now leads the country towards post-conflict reconstruction and reconciliation.

Certainly he is a Charismatic & a born Leader in Sri-lanka who actually could guide to its destination, but unfortunately he is surrounded with many unworthy rascals & stupid idiots. If he really wanted to win hearts & minds of ordinary people, he should act to the highest discipline by minimising his cabinet to the minimum bring back the death penalty to all criminals convicted, etc etc.
I would like to wish him all the best at this juncture.

Cgudu- I completely agree with you, but it is too late to fix the damages done by his foolish, uneducated, corrupted brothers , relations and stupid friends, as whole bad incidents have been leak out to the 'International Authorities'.When the time comes whole bunch of 'Fools' will wash their hands and put the blame on him very soon. For his whole political career ,
(1)Stealing Tsunami Funds,
(2)Appointing illexperienced brothers to responsible positions,
(3)Getting closer and giving authority to J.V.P. criminals,
(4)Cutting down the relationship with Western World, and going closer with communism and kissing the shoulders of already black listed Dicttators of the world.
(5)Giving more credits to Snake in the Grass 'India'.
(6)Not listining to the educated civilized experienced local experts in various fields inclueding Militery.
(7)Investing unnecessery foolish projects all over the island,
(8)Not establishing Law and Order in the country,
(9)Manupilating the Judiciery for his benifits.
Those are some of his mistakes he made during his Political Career, any how 'ALL WE MAKE MISTAKES AND IT IS HUMAN ONLY CAN FIND THE MISTAKES AND CORRECT'.
Wish him all the best. |

President completes 42 years in politics
All Presidents SL has had so far had very unceremonious endings.
JR was not even accorded a state funeral, Premadasa was virtually scraped off the road. DBW just came and just went and died in oblivion, CBK was virtually kicked out after having lost one eye as well.
Wonder how the end will be for MR????????? |

Wonder how the end will be for MR?????????
Don t you think MR deserves a state funeral at the end for extricating Sinhalaya from Tamil terrorism? If not what would have been our plight? By this time how many lives would have gone?
All politicians are bloody rouges and MR no exception but when it comes to wiping out Tamil terrorism MR is great.
On the face of Tamil terrorism JR, Premaya, CBK and DBW are nothing but bloody jokers.
If not for MR may be Parabakoran the one ruling this country by this time.
Any comment? Magnum

President completes 42 years in politics
Great achievement indeed. If he were to complete the 43rd year, he must get tough with the racists so that a political solution to the national problem can be found. He must also come down hard on the crooks, the nincompoops, the wheeler dealers and the criminals within his circle. Last but not the least, he must restore law and order and allow the Rule of Law to function without fear or favour.
A tall order, but not impossible.

In bygone days, we celebrated 10, 25, 50 years etc.....
Very soon we would be celebrating on a monthly basis. |
