Sri Lanka s Ambassador to Geneva Tamara Kunanayakam has decided to step down as a diplomat following her sudden transfer to Cuba.
She is already offered a position at TGTE HQ in NY...!

Democratic National Alliance (DNA) leader and former army chief, Sarath Fonseka, said that power should be devolved to the Tamil minority only after trust between the Sinhalese and the Tamils is restored.
There is so much mistrust and suspicion between the two communities built up over the years by politicians on both sides of the ethnic divide. This is why solutions like devolution of power is not accepted by the Sinhalese, he told Indian Express at his country retreat in Thalawathugoda.
They are jittery about offering anything because they do not trust them (the Tamils). If any party or country is really interested in ethnic reconciliation in Lanka, it should, first of all, help bring about mutual trust, Fonseka added.
Trust can be restored only by allowing people of various ethnicities to live and do business with each other. But it will not come overnight. You need time. It may take 20 years, may be a generation of living together. We have to be patient. After all, the distrust we see today is the result of 30 years of fighting, he explained.

[On the cost of fuel, speaking at a press conference in Colombo, Gayantha claimed that despite oil price presently declining in the global market, fuel prices in Sri Lanka continues to remain at a very high level.
Due to what reason is the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) incurring losses when the Lanka IOC gaining profits, he inquired from pressmen.
Govt and the govt ministers should stop wasting Petrol. That will cut down the lost.
Canada is a major oil producing country. Yet, petrol is more expensive in Canada than in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka should increase petrol and diesal prices more and should cut down the use by politicians and the govt. |

Very short sighted. When you increase the diesel prices, what else happens? Prices of goods will go up significantly. Unless mass trasnport is enhanced, increasing diesel prices may not help. In countries such as USA and Canada it may work. First, GOSL should encourage conservation.
I do agree that the guidance and laws do not seem to apply to those who govern the country. Shame on them. |

I state clearly that unless this government makes the proper use of this final opportunity to arrive at a solution for the problems of the Tamil people, and wholeheartedly unites with us, this country will have to face one of the worst declines in its history. He further emphasized that what they clearly asked for is a solution within a united Sri Lanka, we are committed to the achievement of such a goal.
This solution must be reasonable, acceptable, realistic, and permanent. We are prepared to offer our cooperation and service to those committed to the achievement of such a solution, he added.

that happens in NorthAmerica where the main stream transport is the Truck. Sri Lanka is small country and has a railway network to connect the country.
[Unless mass trasnport is enhanced, increasing diesel prices may not help.]
Every govt helped, car dealers to get rich at the expense of the country.
[First, GOSL should encourage conservation.]
Ask politicians to cut down automobile use. |
