The Inter-company Employees Union (ICEU) will lodge a complaint with the Bribery Commission today on the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) investments in the stock market. The ICEU said the EPF had incurred a massive loss of four billion rupees in this questionable deal.
Union President Wasantha Samarasinghe accused the government of failing to take action and that therefore it was vital for others to step in and find out how and why these transactions had taken place and to ensure that the culprits were apprehended. He said the EPF was made up of the money deducted from the salaries of private sector employees and the investments in the stock market were questionable, controversial and dubious transactions that needed to be investigated immediately.
Mr. Samarasinghe said the rate at which the EPF was incurring losses the private sector employees would not only lose out on interest but even the existing capital would also be significantly reduced and should it happen the treasury would have to intervene.
The EPF, which is the country s largest fund, had so far invested a staggering Rs.7.2 billion in the stock market.
It is reported that the Galadari Hotel has incurred a debt of Rs.6.2 billion but the EPF bought 23.7 million shares at Rs.32.5 a share in 2010. The price of a share had now fallen to Rs.17 and at that price the EPF will only be able to obtain Rs.365 million for its shares.
Tsunami Hora Loot EPF.

Dogclass used the word Eelam to misguide the foolish Tamils. Dogclass is a murderer, yet he is in the govt. What does that tell about the govt ?
Govt. treat Tamils as they treat fools.

SRI Lankans are again seeking asylum from Australia by boat in large numbers and they are bypassing people-smugglers in Indonesia, instead sailing direct to Christmas Island. Immigration authorities believe the 88 Sri Lankans offloaded at Christmas Island yesterday were the latest in recent months to embark on the perilous boat trip of more than 3000km from Sri Lanka to the Australian territory of Christmas Island ..
The woman LTTE rep says people are leaving because the conditions are horrible in SL. If they are, why can't they take a boat to TNadu? What do that have to go to Australia.
This is the game they have been playing and they are doing it well. |

Seven suspected human smugglers were remanded today when they were produced in court over an attempt to smuggle over 100 people to Australia. Meanwhile the court released on bail 112 people who were arrested in Colombo and Negombo yesterday while they were preparing to head to Australia by boat illegally. Investigations revealed that the asylum seekers had paid around Rs. 200,000 each for the illegal journey to Australia.
Again, this is big business. Why Australia? |

On Tamil militancy: If we relax, if we don ft take steps to prevent it there is a possibility it can rise again. But from the security forces, intelligence we have to take steps to change the way we operate. Their international network is in tact.

FJ: How many civilians then were killed? Because the government consistently maintained there were zero casualties?
GR: No. that is another mistake. What we did say was a zero civilian casualty policy! That was what we were aiming at. That was what we told troops. Our goal was to achieve that.
Janze! hmm..woman having an interview with Gota? May be she is lvoe.
It is 'zero civilian casualty policy' stupid! not 'zero civilians'
