A few years ago, Sri Lanka needed IMF funds in order to BAIL OUT Sri Lanka. Most of the countries in the world needed IMF FUNDs or FUNDS from the CENTRAL bank of the same Country ONLY ONCE. But, Sri Lanka was not so.

Sri Lanka NEEDED three times. Because, Sri Lanka had given priority to importing cars and to import $ 5.0 billion worth oil to run those automobiles.

Besides, all the govt owned enterprises are either losing money or under-performing.

SO DID WE NEED THIS DESPERATELY.

No one is coming there. Sri Lanka had to offer it free for use. WHAT KIND OF CORPORATE PLAN IS THAT ?

Sri Lanka had many other harbors which could be developed in order to demands,if any available.

But, only a several ships had arrived since the inauguration of this port ?

So, it looks simply, at this time, it is a wastage of money.

ships dont come just because you dig up a hole and fill up with water, you need to create the infrastructure on top of it and mainly this harbour is intended to be a service oriented and not to compete with container port colombo....

its not waste of money, its a strategic investment given the proximity of the main maritime route. once the bunkering and other facilities are available i am quite sure it will be a success. but to convince the tunnel vision preachers is just a impossible task!

First they must make arrangement to service the ship crew by having multinational tart services.
