Sri Lanka Navy to establish a Naval Zone for the Eastern Province

Sri Lanka Navy is planning to establish a Naval Zone for the Eastern Province as a measure to facilitate operations against drug trafficking and disaster management activities.
The Navy Commander Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake recently toured the Ampara District to inspect the work related to the project. He inspected the land from the Ampara town allocated for the naval zone.
The Navy said it renders a significant service to uplift civilian lives in the Eastern Province and it intends to establish the Zone in the Eastern Province to further streamline those activities.
Currently, Galle Naval Zone handles the naval activities of the Eastern Province
