The presidential pardon given to former Army chief Sarath Fonseka is conditional, said attorney general Eva Wanasundara,

He will not be able to contest elections for seven years.

However, Mr. Fonseka has the voting rights, said the AG.

Since the president has pardoned the ex-Army chief for the prison term he was to serve, he is considered as a person who has served a jail term, she said.

Furthermore, there is a court case pending in connection with his having harboured Army deservers, the AG noted.

Govt. being served a dose of its own medicine?


A member of the Bulathsinghala local body had been abducted yesterday night (20). The victim of the abduction is UPFA member Lakmini Anupama Panditharatne . A group that arrived in a motor cycle had carried out this abduction , according to preliminary investigations. The abduction had taken place yesterday night in the vicinity of a Vihara in Thebuwana.


Things getting worse.

Even Mervyn is not safe from the white van. If powers to be think there is too much heat they will do things that they normally will not do to calm the population.

I think we are in for some interesting days.

Ever since UN debacle, Indian media is trying to make GOSL and SL look bad. I think this is one of those articles to prove that conjecture.

SF starting to March on the wrong foot here? He is an idiot if he provokes GOSL.

More than that, I thought this guy was sick and had no energy to do much!

Physically maybe, but he has the mental strength and will of all the Raja Inc put together and more.

Dont you think its a good thing. His rights might be denied for seven years but he can always teach the next generation not to be slaves of the Raja family.

He has even started talking about the 'so called' war crimes charges.... This willonly bring his popularity down..... Rather than critizicing the GOSL he should put out plans on building a proper party first...... I m thinking UNP is controllong SF AGAIN....Considering the things he i saying to the media....
