SF will be more dangerous without civic rights than with. Right now he has authority without accountability.
But legally unable to contest elections. And MR will be the president of SL till he dies. |

Fonseka could get White Vanned or become another Janaka Perara
Fonseka now a prisoner in the open
=Former Chief Justice Sarath Nanda Silva yesterday observed that President Rajapaksa had not granted a full pardon to Gen. Sarath Fonseka.
The presidential pardon had not been backdated to the beginning of his sentence passed by the second military court martial, therefore he had lost his civic rights for seven years, the former Chief Justice said. |

ShivaRebirth,
Am I just dreaming?
Yes, you are. I was also dreaming. But, I haven t completely given up hope. A lot of the run-of-the-mill Sinhala politicians in the Parliament are like the frogs in the well. Even some Tamil politicians are like that. The world has moved on. Even Gaddafi was killed by his own people. Bid Laden was taken out by U.S. special forces right under the nose of Pakistani military. MNCs like Google, Samsung or Apple are more powerful than many countries in the world, including Sri Lanka. A lot of people in Sri Lanka have no idea why we had a war for more than 20 years - because they were repeatedly lied to by their leaders (keeping journalists out of the war zone and snuffing out journalists who wanted to tell the truth helped also). They also don't know how some Tamils from abroad are already helping Sri Lanka attract foreign investment and move towards ethnic reconciliation.
If these Sinhala people were in the position of Tamil Diaspora (i.e., if the roles were reversed), then, they would understand the pain and anger the Tamils have. Who would want to leave their homes, friends and their temple festivals behind for life in the West? Who likes to lose everything you and your family had in a war or in racially motivated riots, where the police just stood by and watched?
So far, Mahinda Rajapakse, as the President of Sri Lanka, is yet to express any sorrow (only Western leaders and those of the caliber of South African leaders are capable of admitting wrong doing) for the actions of what his military did to the Tamil people. On the contrary, he and his brother, the Defense Secretary have done everything they could to inflame the open wounds. There is no indication of reflection on the mistakes and crimes committed by both sides to the ethnic conflict. With the continuation of military rule in the North and parts of the East, along with install-a-Buddha statue campaign underway, you cannot expect members of the Tamil Diaspora to question what the LTTE leaders did in their names.
So, yes, we are both dreaming. There is no indication of a fundamental shift in the approach the Sri Lankan President is taking towards how totally differing views of the past and the future can be reconciled between the majority of Sinhalese and Tamil people. Under the Constitution, everyone is supposed to be equal. But, in reality, the State treats the Tamil people, especially those in the Northeast, as lesser beings subject to military rule.

YARLAN:
You don't want to think, that you are also a Frog in the well with respect to certain issues and you don't understand that you are a TAMIL-TRIABLIST with respect to some other issues.

AnuD,
Thank you. With comments like that coming from the most openly racist Sinhala person in LNP, I have to treat them as complimentary. Others have come and gone and even changed their stripes.
But, I admire you for your consistent pro-Sinhala anti-Tamil comments here for a very long time. How is life treating you in Canada? You and Thivya.............LOL.
