Sri Lanka is our home, not Tamil Nadu. By using your logic, I can argue that Orissa or West Bengal is your home. Because, that is where your logic will take you.
In 1824, there were less than 200,000 Tamils in Sri Lanka. IT rose to millions once Dutch and British brought South Indians to Sri Lanka. |

AnuD,
Where is the source of the information regarding 1824? Also, what was the size of Sinhala population in 1824, leaving aside the migrant population associated with the Arabs, Malays and also Malayalees (many of these groups, who settled in the western coastal areas of Ceylon also became Sinhalese over time by adopting the language and customs and/ by assimilation).
Here is something to look at, which you don't want to know about:

Population censuses have a long history in Sri Lanka. The earliest reported enumeration of people in Sri Lanka was in the Dutch period. In 1779, the Dutch governor Van de Graff ordered a census of population in the coastal regions under their control. The first country wide population census was conducted in 1824 under the regime of the British governor Sir Edward Barnes. The coverage of this census, however, was incomplete and the reported population in the entire country was 850,000. The first systematic countrywide population census to be organized along modern principles was conducted in 1871 under the direction of W.J. MacCarthy, the Registrar General in the British colonial regime in Ceylon. The tradition of decennial censuses began since then.
Going by AuuD period of reference and the number provided there were around 24% Tamils. LOL |

YARLAN:
when Portugeuse, dutch and english invaded Sri Lanka Muslims and even Veddas had supported us but never by Tamils.
East was completely occupied by Sinhala buddhisats and it is colonials who killed them. then only estate tamils moved to those areas.
Tamils some how want to establish that they lived in Sri lanka. Yarlan himself told how Migratory - FISHERMEN - Tamils Settleed in coastal AREAs. Edited By - AnuD - 14 May 2012 23:21:40 GMT |
