Sri Lanka`s main opposition United National Party (UNP) is to commence a joint opposition campaign against the rising cost of living and other issues faced by the country`s people.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told ColomboPage that members of the joint opposition had met last week and decided that a campaign needs to be launched demanding the government to address the issues faced by the people.

Members of the UNP, Tamil National Alliance, Democratic People`s Front led by Mano Ganesan, Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne, and Siritunga Jayasuriya have met to discuss the issue.

Attanayake said the joint opposition members are scheduled to meet this week to discuss in detail about the campaign since no finality was reached at last week`s meeting.

`We will decide on the action to be taken this week and proceed accordingly` he said, adding that people in the country were burdened with many issues that need urgent solutions.

Sinhala GA officially orders Buddhist construction at Thirukkeatheesvaram

:)

The colonizers are erecting Singhala temple everywhere, so that in ten years they can say it was originally a Sinhala place.

Aren't there other places than the proximity of Hindu temples to build Sinhala temple ?

But in the first place, why should build a Buddhist temple in a place there is no Buddhist at all ? Can't you build proper houses for the war victims and widows INSTEAD ?

Keep on provocating us..

I have no illusion about Sinhalese Buddhism at all..

Diaspora Tamil on visit to reclaim land killed in Vanni

A 53-year-old Eezham Tamil citizen of Canada was found brutally slain with a slit throat Friday morning at Kaagnchipuram lane, 2 km west of Paranthan junction in the Ki linochchi district of Vanni. The killing seems to have taken place between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. Thursday, according to the relatives of the victim. The victim, Anthonypillai Mahendrarasa, the son of a successful former trader, had come to Paranthan to claim the ownership of the lands, especially the lands he owns in Kumaarapuram in Ki'linochchi district, which have been occupied by the SL military, informed sources said. He also owns properties of business potential.

Simply barbaric

This i show EEZHAM came into life

South Asia: A Short History by Hugh Tinker Chapter 6 Economic and Social Change in Modern Times, page 103 states:
The first attempt to calculate Ceylon's population was made in 1824 the total was placed at 851,940. Ten years later, the population was gives as 1,167,700, and by 1911 had risen to 4,106,350. Some of this increase came from Indian Coolie immigration: for example, between 1843 and 1859, 903,557 Indians entered Ceylon, and only a small proportion ever returned to India.

Soem where around 1910, Tamils asked separate country for them selves

According to the 1881 census, there were 687,200 Tamils and 184,500 Muslims adding to 871,700. No distinction was made between Indian-born Tamils and other Tamils. Only the total was counted.
In other words, the total population of Indian extraction in 1881 was 871,700 less than the recorded number of Indian Collies who illegally immigrated to the island of 903,557. For 22 years since 1859 to 1881, their numbers would have grown. But at the same time a small number would have returned back to India while others would have died under difficult conditions British masters put slaves through during this time. Some others may have joined native Sinhalese.
It is obvious the Tamil population that existed in 1881 was almost entirely Indian immigrants after 1843. Only very few Tamils would have existed in Ceylon before 1843. That is the reason why the 1824 provisional census didn't identify any significant numbers of different ethnicities. In fact the 1824 provisional census identifies only one significant ethnicity in the island.
The word Indian Tamils should not be confused. The term entered official parlance only in 1911.

SarKozy leaves politics.

Has any politician ever in Sri Lanka left politics after the defeat ?

Nicolas Sarkozy looks set to leave the world of politics behind him after being ousted from power in Sunday s presidential election runoff.

After failing to convince a majority of French voters to back his re-election bid Sarkozy became the first president since 1981 to be voted out of office after serving just one term.

After accepting defeat on Sunday night in front of his impassioned followers Sarkozy said he would never again run for the presidency.

They drop dead in the parliament.
