It is not correct to sing the national anthem in any other language but still I do not mind Tamils singing national anthem in Tamil without changing the lyrics and also if they consider Sri lanka as their motherland.
And also you get the feeling only if you know the meaning of those words you utter. Just like we sing a tamil song, we sing but we do not know the meaning. So, what is the big idea of tamils singing national anthem in Singhala if they do not understand the meaning and if they do not have the feeling.

Wicks

I totally agree with you but the lyrics in Tamil should give the same meaning what's in the Sinhala version. For you to get the feeling of Patriotism, one has to understand what you are singing as you say.

Coming from you, I sincerely thank you for this post.

Its best to avoid comments from certain people, there are few tamils putting very racist comments here. But we should understand their pain and anger. Both sinhalese and tamils suffered from this bl00dy war, but the problem is when at last we achieved peace and offered the hand of friendship, tamil diaspora still dont want to follow the path of peace. They still go blindly after their dream. but if they think they achieve something by writing some racist comments here, let them. Only they will suffer from mental unrest, why do you also fall into that state?

Its better to ignore them, and do your best to keep lasting peace in our motherland, its our responsibility. Its our fallen brothers who paid the ultimate price to enable us and our children to live without fear and terror.

Diaspora will do absolutely anything to take the country back to the dark days, but if people use their brains instead of emotions, they wont succeed with their conspiracies

KUDU Hunna's uncle is talking from his rear end.

The outspoken Minister further said that he is prepared to forgive the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman and members, if they put a stop to their acts of corruption, cheating and irregularities during the Vesak season and volunteer to serve the people.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of a dry rations Dansala in Kiribathgoda today (May 04), he claimed the Kelaniya PS members gave him milk coffee and using his political influence had engaged in various large scale malpractices behind the screen.

Good for you KUDU Hunna, your cousin will be in power.

Minister Silva further declared that after he leaves politics, no outside individual will be given the opportunity for politics in Kelaniya and said his son Malaka will take over the reins in Kelaniya after him.

And then you start blaming the sinhalese for their language reminding them of their religion. And its ok for hindus to commit every crime?

NeverAgain,

This is in reference to the discussion we had on Tamara Gunanayakam. I wish you read my posting once again before reading this news item appeared in todays Daily Mirror. While many ordinary people including mainly Sinhalese boasted her to be an intellect and a patriot, in no way different to our famous Kadir, now you see things are falling into place.

Had she been intelligent and had the foresight regarding the way Sri Lankan system operate, especially under this funny Mahinda's regime, then she would not have put her foot into this bottomless pit. Now she has proved that after all she is not that intelligent and S Lankan system will never change. Now possibly wait for the fireworks to follow: Tamil traitor, LTTE agent, US agent......it will be interesting but known in advance.

This is also a heavy blow to some who scream that there is no racism in SL and tamils hold top positions every where. Hope at least some will realise how Kadir survived and how he played the game by simply losing his identity. He had to forgo his entire identity for mere perks and position and it is a very pathetic plight for him.

Then comes the ordinary low grade Tamils like Karuna, Dougy and Pillayan and really it is not worth considering these fellows here as it is an insult to Tamara and Kadir. For them it is 100% PERKS so does not matter for them and they have nothing called identity.

Sri Lanka has paid a heavy price for the lack of cohesion as it was essential to project an image of unity rather than that of discord as the country prepares for important appointments at the UN Human Rights Council, said Tamara Kunanayakam, Sri Lanka s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva.

She mentioned this in a May 1 datelined letter sent to External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris rejecting an offer to be transferred to another station.
Your proposal to move me out only nine months after assuming duties as PR in Geneva, will suggest instability in our diplomacy and an ad hoc character, when, in a multilateral Mission, it is essential to display cohesion, unity and stability if we are not to be continuously on the defensive. If I were to accept your proposal, Sri Lanka will be the only country to have had four Ambassadors in three years, which is normally the minimum period of postings for envoys of other countries, Ambassador Kunanayakam said. Removing one of the very few Tamils heading diplomatic missions abroad will allow questioning of the bona fides of the Government s commitment to reconciliation, will reinforce extremist elements on all sides, and validate the argument that mine was only a token appointment.

She said it would convey the impression that those loyally carrying out instructions of the President and his Minister of External Affairs are being penalised precisely for this loyalty, whereas those responsible for compromising on principles, creating divisions, and undermining unity were rewarded.
Ambassador Kunanayakam expressed surprise at the proposal to transfer her given that it was only on April 23 that the Ministry of External Affairs, in a media statement, affirmed that no decision had been made to change the posts of officials of the Ministry or Missions abroad, or to transfer them.
She said under the present circumstances, it was unlikely that her transfer to Brazil or Cuba would be looked upon kindly by either Brasilia or Havana, which would not appreciate being viewed as punishment stations.

Ambassador Kunanayakam said the objective of the orchestrated campaign targeting those who defended positions of principle, initially Ambassador Dayan Jayatilleke and now encompassing others may be viewed as an effort to put Sri Lanka s diplomacy on the defensive.

I believe I have acted consistently with loyalty toward our people and our country, and that I have worked on the basis of principles rather than devious schemes and maneuvers, pettiness, and mediocrity. Mine is not a personal agenda, and my motivations are not career, fame, or fortune related. I have carried out my duties conscientiously, with the best interests of the Sri Lankan people at heart and to the best of my abilities, placing at their service my long experience and knowledge of the UN System, more than 10 years of which was spent within the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, she said. i dont think there will be any other patriot tamil that will come close to kadir. If he was alive today, he could have done a much better service to the country, even during president chandrika's time where there were no peace at all, he still managed to change the attitudes of very extreme people.

This is one of the great loss to the nation
