Friday prayers went underway without protests or violence at the controversial Masjid Khairah in Dambulla today, amidst police and army security.
About 20 armed police and army officers set up a small barricade at the entrance of the mosque, and trustees of the mosque were seen checking those who entered the mosque premises.
Mosque Trustee Bahurdeen Amanulla said that they were going ahead with the prayers as usual, and were not expecting any form of trouble.
Speaking to Ceylon Today, Inamaluwe Sumangala Thera, the incumbent of the Dambulla rock temple who spearheaded last week s protests, said that they would not oppose prayers over the next six months, till the mosque was relocated as per the government order.
