Dhepath Naya:
It was on April 17th that we first reported that President Mahinda Rajapaksa had instigated the Chief Incumbent of the Rangiri Dambulu Rajamaha Vihara, Ven. Inamaluwe Sumangala Thero to protest demanding the removal of a Muslim mosque in Dambulla.
The reports were proven right with the hand grenade attack on the mosque on the 20th and a protest headed by Ven Sumangala Thero and UPFA Matale District MP Lakshman Perera where they surrounded the mosque and harassed the Muslim devotees at the mosque.
The governing party electoral organizer, Minster Janaka Bandara Tennekoon did not participate in the protest and it was liquor businessman in the area, MP Perera who carried out the President s bidding. Perera had met with the heads of the mosque on the 19th night following a Presidential directive and had asked them to move the mosque out of Dambulla. The Muslim heads had been informed that they would be given another land and monies to construct the mosque if they agree to move it. However, the Muslim religious leaders have declined the proposal. Perera had immediately informed the President of the outcome of the meeting and had received instructions form the President on proceeding with the protest campaign.
It is also learnt that the President had also wanted to put Minister Tennekoon in difficulty through these actions.
A senior government minister told us that although the President tries to portray a public image that he liked the Muslim community, in reality he did not like them at all.
The minister said that the President is an extremist in nationalism and religion and is also a firm believer of the caste system.
He said the President had on many occasions said, Don t ever trust those Thambis (Muslims).
However, Muslim members in the government believe that the President was aware of the attack on the Dambulla mosque and he was aware of the efforts to create disharmony among Muslims and Sinhalese.
It is learnt that the Muslim members in the government have as a result been placed in a difficult spot before the Muslim community in the country.
A large number of Muslim countries supported Sri Lanka at the UNHRC when a US backed resolution against the government was taken up in Geneva last month.
A governing party MP told us that given this situation, the efforts to instigate communal disharmony like in the Dambulla incident would have a devastating impact on the country before the internal community in future. |

Well done. Inamaluwe Sumangala Thero of Dambulla who led the gang attack has asked all the sinhalayas to boycott the Muslim shops and businesses.
I am sure they are getting ready for the 13+++ amendment before GL Uncle takes off to meet Madam Clinton.
A very military buildup is around the area to protect the ahinsaka sinhala janathawa from the murderous Muslims.
No wonder Percy spends so much on military.
Sinhalays in the N&E are protected by the sinhala army almost one to one and now it is against thambiyas despite their great support to maama.
Hm...Sinhala Buddists are becoming a protected species! |

Ado Filthy four, just read the thugs in robes. The chief incumbent Sumangala thero lifted his robe and exposed his LINGAM at the mosque as a mark of typical sinhala RESPECT. What else you need and what more we can expect. The sinhalayas, Dhemalus and Muslims who ran away from SL are damn lucky but these gonas should forget about SL.
Disgusting and disgraceful, this bugger's sun..y must be chopped off:
Dambulla attack videos fake says leading monk
A senior Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka who led the protest in Dambulla against a mosque and a Hindu Kovil charged the video footage reporting the attack was fake.
Over a thousand people waving Buddhist flags forcibly stopped Friday prayers in the Masjidul Kairiya mosque in Dambulla and destroyed the contents of the mosque.
Peaceful and democratic
The Mahanayaka of the Rangiri Dambulu chapter Inamaluwe Sumangala thero told BBC Sandeshaya that he only led a 'peaceful and democratic protest against illegal constructions'.
He maintained that no violence was used.
Media organisations denied doctoring footage of the attack on the Dambulla mosque last week.
Technically manipulated
The convenor of the Free Media Movement (FMM), Sunil Jayasekera said the claim by Ven. Sumangala is an attempt to cover up the violence unleashed against the minorities in the country.
'Videos that portrayed the protest as violent were technically manipulated,' said the Mahanayaka thero who also heads a media outlet.
'We saw the video footage on several television stations and have no reason to believe that the images were doctored.' said Jayasekera.
unprecedented behaviour by monks
Ada Derana TV which reported the attack on the mosque denied the allegation that the videos were technically manipulated.
'We have not carried any doctored footage of the Dambulla violence and we stand by the authenticity of the material sent by our local correspondents,' a spokesperson for Ada Derana told BBC Sandeshaya.
The raw footage had to be edited to maintain the dignity of the people who participated in the protest, added the spokesperson.
Journalists at the scene had reported unprecedented behaviour by demonstrators.
BBC's Charles Haviland in Colombo says that a monk was seen exposing himself against the mosque as an insult.

In a Twitter conversation with Dinouk Colombage (@Dinoukc), a journalist with the Sunday Leader newspaper, he notes that according to reports he has received, people of the Dambulla area are ashamed at the behaviour of the Buddhist clergy.
Forgetting and moving on, however, is easier said than done when mob violence, outright racism and violent expression are so closely associated with the practice of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Late last year, a similar mob also led by Buddhist monks destroyed another Muslim place of worship. Photos of the incident show Police just standing by, and a green flag with Islamic iconography being burnt. Mervyn Silva, a senior government Minister whose public record of violence is well documented and is protected by no less than the ruling family, openly threatens to maim and kill human rights defenders and, literally, in the same breath says he is a good Sinhala Buddhist. Some of these statements were made in a leading temple in Colombo, with members of the Buddhist clergy present, who went on to bless the Minister.
Positively frightening Facebook groups that go unnoticed in mainstream discourse because the content is completely in Sinhala demonstrate the fringe lunacy that drives Sinhala-Buddhist extremism. Each of these group have over 4,000 fans, and by the looks of it, are extremely active and influential. Both feature incredibly inflammatory content over the Dambulla incident.

Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne Orders to demolish Dambulla Mosque.
The claim by the Prime Minister Jayaratne that an order was given to demolish the mosque with the consent of Muslim politicians was described as blatant manufactured lie and vehemently rejected by Senior Minister A.H.M.Fawzie, Deputy Minister M.L.A.M Hizbulla, Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana and Parliamentarian Abdul Cader all of whom pointed out that they never attended such a meeting in Gampola.
Refuting the Prime Minister s charges former deputy mayor of Colombo Azath Salley stated that it is misleading to say that the mosque was in existence for two years as it has been there for more than 65 years. We have all the documents to prove that it is a legally constructed mosque under Waqf Act
Therefore the statement by the Prime Minister claiming that the unauthorized construction of the mosque has been stopped is totally false. The land on which the mosque was located was bought by a lady in Jaffna from Englishmen. From that time, this mosque has been in existence. Later the adjacent land too had been bought by the mosque authorities in 1995.
The mosque has been in existence and there are no construction works underway now. This statement by the Prime Minister is misleading the Buddhists in the country. Prime Minister should not make such irresponsible statements as the Waqf Board comes under the Prime Minister and he is contradicting his own statement. Besides the statement by Ven Inamaluwa Sumangla Thera that he will ensure that Muslims will not have a place to urinate is not only irresponsible but very dangerous too .
Though the UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe is yet to comment, UNP s Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa described prime minister s order as law of the jungle and nothing to do with the Buddhism . Sajith asked how could we develop the country when the prime minister s office issues such false statements'?

u didnt beleive the article I sent you abt how a muslim treated a non muslim, you said news are biased and cannot be trusted. so why you beleive this story. this mosque was built recently and illegally. more over this was a conspiracy by tamils to create a tension between sinhala and muslims
My last post gives more information on how old the mosque is.
Remember the Buddha's advice and think again.
As for the evangelist website, would you accept it if the report was not about Iran or Pakistan but about Sri Lanka? |
