The acting minister pointed out that Sri Lanka achieved all these goals while the Western world was facing a huge financial crisis and other countries were going through severe financial difficulties.

Sri Lanka faced all challenges successfully and continued its massive development drive making a significant landmark in the country s history. Sri Lanka will continue to walk forward no matter what challenges are thrown at the country, he said.
When it comes to the LLRC Report recommendation implementation, the Sri Lankan government has one clear stand. That is not betraying the identity of the motherland. From the beginning the Sri Lankan government had its own strategy and road map to go for a solution from the the ethnic issue. Therefore ,it was not required anybody to tell the Sri Lankan government when , how and what should be done.
External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L.Peiris has already clearly stated that the Parliament Select Committee comes first and after the rest can be taken care of.

Got it!

Sri Lanka records best-ever economic growth

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka's economy grew by 8.3 percent last year, the quickest expansion since independence from Britain in 1948, the census and statistics department said Thursday.

The rate compared with an expansion of 8.0 percent in 2010, the first full year after government forces defeated Tamil Tiger rebels in May 2009 and declared an end to nearly 40 years of fighting.
'The 8.3 percent growth (in 2011) is the highest GDP growth ever achieved since independence,' the department said, adding that it was also the first time since independence that 8.0 percent growth was recorded in two consecutive years.
Tourism has been a big growth area after the end of the Tamil separatist war, with earnings in the sector jumping 41.4 percent last year.

Per capita income also increased to $2,836 in 2011, up from $2,400 the year before.

The impressive growth figures for 2011 come at a time when worries are mounting about the economy because of a widening trade deficit.
Fears of a balance-of-payments crisis have prompted the government to revive an International Monetary Fund rescue package, suspended since last year.

The IMF announced it would release a $427-million instalment this week as part of a package negotiated in 2009.

The $2.6-billion bailout is intended to build Sri Lanka's foreign reserves.
Sri Lanka has sought to overcome its balance-of-payments troubles by hiking interest rates, allowing its currency to fall and imposing new taxes to curb imports.

The central bank has revised its growth projection for 2012 to 7.2 percent, down from an earlier estimate of 8.0 percent after the new monetary and fiscal measures were announced.

In a true display of humanity and pluralism two marriage ceremonies were held at the New Magazine Prison in Welikada. The two weddings were held where a former LTTE cadre married a Sinhalese girl from his hometown and a person convicted in a drug related incident married a Muslim girl. A former LTTE cadre Shakthiwel Ilangeshwaran(34) tied the knot with Gunasena Sudarshini(32) a resident of Vavuniya

Only Sinhalese would do something like this!

aLL cRAP.

Sri Lanka can not grow it's own food. Need to import even the simplest things. Sri Lanka is primitive and do not have food preservation methods. So, the prices agricultural commodities change every season and from region to region within the small island.

Sri Lanka imported $ 5 billion worth of oil last year alone.

since 2009, 500,000 cars a year had been imported. Now roads are full of vehicles and fatal accidents occur a several day.

Lord Naseby (Michael Morris) - Founder of the Sri Lanka Friendship Group in the UK Parliament/ All Party Parliamentary Group on Sri Lanka - today said there was a visible change in the TNA which is more willing, open and appreciative towards government s efforts for devolution.

I met the TNA leader and he recognized that some good work is being done in Jaffna. However they do want civil administration to return. He told me clearly that he was committed to the 13th Amendment, he said

Finally, TNA is coming around. Peelamists are going to be very worried!

$ 5 billion of Oil every year and 500,000 thousands car a year.

What a waste.

Just to fill the air with vehicle smoke and to gather rusty scrap metal every where.
