Burma had gone through similar harassements through the UNHCR.
Until very recent times burma was accused by the western media for various human right violations. Now, Suddenly, Myanmar is a good boy of the USA and every thing is honky dory, no complains any more.
Earlier India, China and Russia protected Burma. But finally
they released opposition leader Aung San who was in the jail (house arrest) for synthetic charges like SF. Now getting back to normal relationship with USA
BTW, her husband is a Canadian.

Russia is not so happy with Srilanka's leadership, specially what MR.R's doing with the individuals who oppose him. Srilankan Ambassador in Moscow visited three times to meet F/M Lavrov regards to UNHRSC issue.
