Do you agree NE does not need land and police powers? We are a small country and I cannot understand why TNA is hell bent on this? This makes us very suspicious

That is a good question. Really I am not very concerned about police powers and we can have a mixed force with more tamil speaking officers.
Regarding land power, this is to protect the ethnic identity and political power. You will know that there is already things are going on by the GOSL to settle sinhalese in the Vanni area in particular in order to alter the demography. On the long run the tamils in the north will lose their political clout and even economic advantage.
I am not depriving any one settling anywhere but here it is done by the Sinhala government with sinister motive in an organised manner. That is why land power becomes significant. But still there should be provision for landless sinhalese to settle down in an organised manner controlled by the northern council.
Until all these suspicions are cleared all have to go slow and once things have settled down and people are convinced that there is no trick then things could open up. Initial stage is always difficult.
You could see at present they are just building buddist temples all over and along A9 at frequent intervals but there are no buddist to worship. Why this action? This is to impart the sinhala buddist authority in the north and not for any religious reasons. This is why tamils are antagonistic towards buddist temples and certainly not against Buddism. These are very simple things MR can look into during the reconciliation process.
Please once again remember that tamils are not against Buddism at all!
But the most difficult thing is for the MR to change the minds of the sinhalese who have been polluted for political reason. Once economy and some sort of politcal freedom begins to operate in the north then tamils will be happy with their productive way of lives that will be beneficial to the whole country. There are plenty of untapped resources in the north in terms of fisheris, agriculture and industry but throughout sinhala government blocked those developments obviosuly due to racial bias.
That is why implementation of the reconciliation of the LLRC process in deed (not word) will uplift the whole of SL.

This is a gem. What can I say? Ranjan Wijeratne once had a plan to evacuate Jaffna to avoid civilian casualties. I guess Mervyn must be better than all those who tried before, including Kobbekaduwa. aiyoo! |

Your arguments for land powers do not hold water. As you know very well, tamils live all over the land and in fact, Wellawatte area and others have been colonized by tamils for ages. When they come, the area grows. In Colombo, I believe majority are tamils. And you complain about buddhist temples, hindu temples have been springing up all over the island during the last 30 years. First there is a stone with puja, then a small hut, and finally a full blown hindu temples. Also, there is lot of evidence that NE was full of buddhist temples. Try again!

Does not matter which and from whom proposal. My question to you is Why MR.R not getting rid of Dr Mervin, Why protecting Dr. Mervin, who is killing innocent kids, teen,destroying families with Extacy drugs and also give bad name for the country. Does MR.R love and protecting his country or Dr. Mervin?
