Sri Lankan medical professionals say they handled around 300 child delivery per month at the Cheddikulum Hospital during the last period of war with the Tigers in 2009.

Dr.Hemantha Perera President of the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists said that at the cessation of hostilities internally displaced Sri Lankans were coming into temporary camps in large numbers. The Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SLCOG), being the apex body of professionals providing maternity care in Sri Lanka anticipated that there would be a major need for maternity care for these people. The SLCOG took the initiative of rallying all stakeholders towards delivery of effective care.

While claiming that the US government is not going to impose an economic sanction on Sri Lanka, US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert O. Blake said that the Sri Lankan government was still hesitating to go ahead with an action plan.

In an interview with ETV channel Mr. Blake said The government (Sri Lanka) was still hesitating to go ahead with a plan when I visited Sri Lanka three weeks ago when I visited Sri Lanka three weeks ago.


Can someone tell this sudda fellow that it is not easy to get over 30 years of war, de-mine the areas, resettle the civilians, and build roads etc. After all, LLRC was submitted to Parliament only last December.

Of course murders happening in every country, but those murders are not protected by the leaders of the every country.

Arsh-chariyaawa.

Galle District Parliamentarian Nishantha Mutuhettigama and four others who were charged with unlawful assembly and abduction of a conductor of a private bus were acquitted by Matara Chief Magistrate Udesh Ranathunga today.

The Magistrate ordered the police to file charges against the conductor Nalin Gunatunga of Devinuwara for making a false statement under oath before the magistrate. He was released on personal bail in Rs.500,000 and ordered to reside in the Matara judicial zone.

The conductor had complained to the police that he was abducted by the Parliamentarian and other four suspects at Wellamadama in Matara for operating a bus during the private bus strike on November 19, 2003, disregarding the strike.

The Parliamentarian NishanthaMutuhettigama was then President of the Southern province Private Bus Operators Association.
