Many patriotic Tamils and Sinhalese living abroad are in Geneva to support Sri Lanka s cause in their battle to avert a resolution against the country at the United Nations Human Rights Council sessions.
Among them are prominent figures such as World Institution for Asian Studies head A T Rajasingham who is also the Chief Editor of the Asian Tribune magazine, Rajeshwari Balasubramaniam of Diaspora Dialogue , Douglas Wickremaratne and several others.
The Sri Lankan delegation in Geneva also plans to present another video documentary titled Sri Lanka the Emerging Wonder conflict, peace and prosperity for the benefit of UNHRC members.
The first documentary will showcase to members that the Channel 4 video has failed to show the LTTE atrocities, including the recruitment of children, where even children as young as 10 years, were recruited for armed combat by the LTTE.
Meanwhile, Channel 4 is preparing to screen their second video in Geneva today, which has a running time of 53 minutes and is a sequel to its earlier one Sri Lanka Killing Fields. The latest one is titled Unpunished War Crimes.
They have invited all members attending the UNHRC sessions, including the Sri Lankan delegates for the screening.
The Sri Lankan delegation to Geneva includes Ministers G L Peiris, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Faizer Mustapha, Rishard Baduideen, Douglas Devananda, Rauf Hakeem. Neomal Perera, Sajin Vaas Gunewardene MP, former Attorney General Mohan Peiris and Prof Rajiva Wijesinha among others |

You have any proof of this? Besides, getting a loan under conditions is different from sacrificing our dignity.
Why did you stop buying Petrolien from Iran? Only USA and EU made embargo on importation from Iran, not Srilanka.
If you stop because of the USA, this means you are bending to USA power.
Where is your principal man?
Secondly, why did you depreciated Rupees under IMF pressure? Only your politicians were trying to hide this but any economists in Srilanka will tell you the real truth. |

NA:
You are amazing.
This is just one article which is posted today.
A little more than a month ago the rupee was doing fine. Ticking along at a nice pace of about 110 ish. The subsequent move to 115 shocked a few people, but in true Sri Lankan fashion, we put up and shut up about it and just moved on with our lives. After the sudden hike in petrol prices and the dollar skyrocketing to 124 rupees however, even the most cynically stiff eyebrows in the country raised in consternation.
A higher dollar is going to limit all those luxury imports, and the not so luxury ones too. Fuel for one thing. And all those imported items you see in supermarkets for another. Cornflakes, chocolates, ice cream etc etc. Online shoppers are going to find it harder to buy things they like, and inflation is going to gradually pick up as markets start reflecting the cheaper rupee in commodity prices.
Many greeted the devaluation of the rupee with shock. They weren t expecting this. Where did it come from? Why did the government do this overnight? What in blue blazes is going on? |
