President Mahinda Rajapaksa today said that Sri Lanka never sought foreign advice, deployed foreign forces or obtained the services of mercenaries in its fight against terrorism.

The President stated tha the country requires no foreign advice on safeguarding human rights in the country therefore foreign intervention or their instructions are not necessary to safeguard human rights and carry out humanitarian, reconstruction and reconciliation programmes in this country, the President said addressing a ceremony held at the Temple Trees.

The war was fought and won solely by our heroic soldiers based entirely, on home gown military strategies and they were directed by their commanders. Sri Lanka has the capability, strength and knowledge to take the country forward on its own policies and programmea. We have nothing to learn from foreign powers on how we should run the country and resolve our problems, President Rajapaksa said.

President Rajapaksa emphasized Sri Lanka could resolve her problems in the same manner she defeated terrorism.

All Sri Lankans whether they are from the North, South , East or West must rise against the situation that has been created in Geneva. It is the paramount duty of the opposition for the sake of the nation to rise with the people to protect the country. The opposition and all Sri Lankans must forget their religious, cast, ethnic and political affiliations at this hour and confront the problem as one people, President Rajapaksa added.

We must determine to resolve our problems collectively as we are all the children of one mother. Only then would Sri Lankans of all parts of the country be able to enjoy the dividends of peace, he said. (By Sandun A. Jayasekera)

The Army Commander Jagath Jayasuriya said today that the reason behind the film that is to be produced by the Army on the death of Prabhakarans is to provide answers to the questions that have been raised in the new documentary released by Channel 4.

Addressing troops in Vavuniya today the Army Chief Many people have asked me the question as to why there is such a hurry about a film about Prabhakarans death. In order to clear all doubts that have surfaced in this regard the army decided to produce a documentary that would portray the true picture of what exactly happened during the last stages of the conflict.

The Commander went on to point out that Channel 4 failed to address any issue that was raised in the documentary titled Lies agreed upon released by the government. We have already responded to the fist documentary put out by Channel 4 and we believe we countered them successfully. In the second video Channel 4 has failed to address any of the issues that we raised and therefore its concoction of the truth is clear he said.

BTW, where is your blabbering that India begged USA to utilize its gold reserves to buy Iranian oil ???

It is sadder that India has been sucked into thinking along similar lines and is worrying about how to pay for the crude it buys from Iran some 10 per cent of our import requirement without falling foul of Western sanctions, instead of opposing the West's use of oil as a political weapon.

What is required today is to stop the implementation of sanction measures the European Union (EU) has rashly announced but not fully implemented. The sanctions have provoked equally unreasonable threats by Iran to suspend exports or close the Strait of Hormuz, to raise the price of oil or to have a scorched earth policy for some Gulf oil fields. These threats, in turn, are being disingenuously touted as justification by the Israelis for military intervention. There are, of course, wise people on both sides who can be depended upon not to carry out such threats. But oil sanctions have raised the temperature so much that a conflict by miscalculation has become a major threat.

A diplomatic initiative by India, China and Russia is needed to lower the temperature, persuade the EU and the U.S. to freeze and then slowly withdraw the use of oil sanctions while getting Iran and Israel to back off on all their threats. Disengaging the weapon of oil from the dialogue required to deal with Iran's nuclear issue is the need of the hour.

There are ways to find an acceptable solution to the nuclear issue. It could involve widening the geographical scope of the negotiating group to include Iran's major neighbours, dealing with the perceived security threat to Iran, refashioning the approach to non-proliferation and dealing with the emerging political puzzle in West Asia.
But using the oil weapon against Iran is not one of them.

India, South Korea increase oil purchases from Iran: IEA
Mar 15, 2012

ndia and South Korea have increased oil imports from Iran despite the United States plea for the two countries to reduce their dependence on the Iranian crude, says the International Energy Agency (IEA).

According to an IEA report, released on Wednesday, both Seoul and New Delhi sharply raised their oil purchases from Iran in January.

The White House is now concerned that it may have to impose sanctions on New Delhi for its refusal to cut back on crude purchases from Tehran.

We Thamiz are always right. They are superior, extra intelligent.

Only problem is, they are gypsies all over the world and do not have their own country.
