Fifteen Muslim Ministers and parliamentarians including a UNP MP, have petitioned the Indian High Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha, requesting him to consider the nearly 100,000 Muslims who were driven out of the North by the LTTE in October 1990, when allocating the 50,000 houses his government intends building.

The petitioners include Ministers A. H. M. Fowzie, Rauf Hakeem, Rishard Bathiudeen and A. L. M. Athaulla, Deputy Ministers A. R. M. Cader, Basheer Segudawood, Faizer Mustapha, Government MP s Faizal Cassim, M. S. Thowfeek, M. S. M. Aslam, M. B. Farook, A. H. M. Azwer, Unais Farook, H. M. M. Harees and UNP MP Kabir Hashim.

The Muslims who were driven out of the North with short notice by former LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, have ever since been living in temporary shelters in Puttalam and various parts of the country.

So what is your point? Have you ever thanked those who faught LTTE for killing VP who killed thousands of sinhalese.

Why does it have to be a sinhala minister talking about sinhalese people? It should be more like minister talking about the cleansing of all ethnic groups.

UK Foreign Office Minister for North America and the Middle East & North Africa, Alistair Burt has stated that to achieve lasting peace Sri Lanka requires a full and honest acknowledgement of the past and it requires processes, in which all parties take part, to ensure justice, reconciliation and political progress. Burt speaking after the transmission of Channel 4 s documentary Sri Lanka s Killing Fields, War Crimes Unpunishe

What about full and honest acknowledgement of Uva Wellassa or even the UK's role in allowing peelamists to raise money in that country.

How come our traitors do not see this double standard.

If Jayalalithaa et al had had an iota of compassion for the war victims of Sri Lanka, they should have helped those unfortunate people by building a few houses or sending some dry rations. They haven't even donated a measure of rice. Instead, they are advancing their hidden secessionist agenda on the pretext of campaigning for a war crimes probe against Sri Lanka.

Tamil Nadu politicians on the warpath have consistently supported the LTTE's separatist struggle even while it was killing the IPKF soldiers in the late 1980s. The Sri Lankan issue has stood Jayalalithaa in good stead. Having come to power promising a blender, a grinder and a fan for all women, four free sheep for poor families, four grams of gold for poor brides, 60,000 cows for 6,000 villages and free cable TV connections for all, she is now bashing Sri Lanka full time to distract her voters' attention from their burning problems and her broken promises.

Island editorial.
