Senior UNP members have accused party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe of planning to sack those working closely with parliamentarians Karu Jayasuriya and Sajith Premadasa at village levels.
The internal battle within the party has reached an all-time high, according to them.
Disciplinary action contemplated by the party leadership against three vibrant UNP parliamentarians has had a serious inroad into the party unity, they pointed out.
Wickremasinghe s anger has turned towards Karu, Sajith and Dayasiri Jayasekera for working against him at the party leadership elections held recently. Now the situation has worsened as a large group of parliamentarians openly siding with the Karu-Sajith faction, they said.
Meanwhile, Karu-Sajith duo has alleged the party leader s tour round the country to collect funds for the repair of the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, was a conspiracy to permanently axe Karu and Sajith from the party.
Kurunegala District parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekeara alleged Wickremesinghe was acting as a dictator breaking all rules and norms of the party and the party would start to lose many provincial UNP leaders in the future elections.
