If not for Gota , ponsaka would have been just an unknown retired general. So ponsaka was that brilient why he had to wait until Gota come back from USA to be the Army commander?
Why Gota changed the Former Army Commander before his Retirement age and made General Fonseka...??

if this the case
Since Fonsaka is very greedy for arrack they can keep giving him arrack between meals or instead of meals & water. Fonsaka will be a happy man but after 2 years when liver fails(boku dera) they can blame his love for the bottle.
