Ooh poor medical students.

it is not enought going overseas and spending $50,000 yr
that is 50 million rupees a year x 5 years at least

then they need additional training that is another 5 years

I think puttting a private medical school in Sri LAnka is long over due. these leftists want to eat state out.

if a person can go abroad spend all that money and comeback to take care of patients, which is not a glorifying job BTW. they have the passion to go on.

You can send a dummy to med school but if you cant pass the exam cant make the cut. politica or no political this is impossible. (if you kill pts who will come to see you-except the same donkey that sent you to school).

Shawnw,
It seems that you still do not get the point. All those foreign graduates pass SLMC's (Sri Lanka Medical council) Act16 exam before practising in SL. Then why not Malabe students? That is the loop hole. Medicine is not something that we can give chances.

I think they should pass some kind of a certification(Act 16 or something else relevent) to practice medicine in Sri Lanka till this medical college prove they produce quality doctors. This requirement can be removed IF Govt can bring in a certification scheam where SLMC (not GMOA) can certify a certain institution that they provide the required training at a level on par(or above) to State medical colleges and the degree they issue is a valid qualification to practice medicine in Sri Lanka.

As part of this certification, they could enforce a minimum A/L qualification as well and ideally GoSL could provide a loan scheame where the govt bear the upfront cost but the students should get in to a bond that they work for govt for a some period of time.

Just a short reply to those who are unaware of Act 16. It is nowhere near the final exams in Sri Lankan universities. For Sri Lankan graduates it is a piece of cake. If you want them to sit for the same exam it would be ideal. But foreign graduates (through their influential parents)refuses this proposal. Actually the level of act 16 was long challenged by Sri Lankan graduates and they demanded for equal level exam for all foreign graduates, which is the usual practice in any other country. However, less than 30% of foreign graduates get through act 16! 70% of Malambe staff members are those who could not get through this simple test(including the present director), but teaching medicine!
