Eleven teachers` unions of Sri Lanka say that the Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena has failed to implement the promises that was given to teachers` unions at a recent discussion.
The 11 teachers` unions include many of the prominent teachers` unions of the island.
Accordingly, the teachers` unions say they will decide trade union action within next few days. Teachers` unions gave a deadline until August 31 for the Minister to solve the problems.
They say that the teachers are facing difficulties due to failure to remove salary anomalies, not giving promotions since 2008 and not granting the money allocated by the 2009 budget to remove the salary anomalies.
Teachers` unions point out that their problem of salary anomalies is 14 years old now.
