I think it is because Sanga, Mahela quitting from cricket captaincy. Public have the opinion that they did it because of political interference. it is revenge for tarnishing politicians image rather the not winning the cup, I think.
True,
IPL lasts until 28th May.
SL's England tour starts 14th May. So these two tournaments overlapped each other.
Both Sanga and Mehela lead two IPL teams. That might be the reason why they quit their captancy posts not purely on moral high grounds.

This Shaminda Eranga seem to be a good all rounder, his talents should be checked and if he's any good with the fast bowling he should be invited to train with SLC.
On the whole I would be in favour of a SPL in Sri Lanka, as I feel it will bring up our game more, also the up and coming youngster will be given the chance to gain some valuable experiences with big names.
But, what bother me is the fact, there is so much money involved, that ultimately it be the ruination of cricket in SL. What would the scenario be, after having played in the SPL and earning vast amounts of money, if no one wants to play for the national team anymore and all the players want to do is play commercial cricket which pays big bucks.. |

Randu,,, you got a valid point,,, all what we can do is to wait and see......
anyway, we (SL cricket fans) will be the losers :)
Jeo,
I was crying for a good rotation policy since long time, this league can be useful and serving the purpose.... me too for the proposal...
anyway, as you said, too much money involved, so more of headaches also should accompany this..... lets wait and see |

Ramz,
I would be more happier if SPL was in Sri Lanka and our players didn't play in India. Our players, especially the bowlers, they loose the edge they have after playing in the IPL. But, as you say money dictates ultimately.
On the whole though I think the possibility of setting up a SPL should be explored, even on paper to begin with. Who knows it may even help with our reconciliation too. But what would the teams be called. How about the ' Jaffna Tygerzzzz'

Ramz,
It could be Colomba Koti vs Jaffna Tygerzzzz in the final. :))
But joking aside, a country wide club system can be set up, as we have 2 new stadiums already built plus the the one Murali is planing to get underway. All these stadium can't stand empty, they need bums on seats to pay for their up keep.
Theoretically in a few years time, we might see our cricketers progression, after playing for the school team, you'd play for SPL, then get head hunted into SLC to either play test cricket or ODI.
Which might not be a bad thing, at least it will create some much needed jobs for the boys. |

yes,, hope so,,,,,,
our domestic circle should get stronger, should be able to produce more quality cricketers...... cricket and cricket clubs should go beyond major cities .... we should have a club from each district to hunt young talents...... school cricket also should be developed and supervised to get any future assets..... |

| Right that's settled then, SPL it is. Now.. how much is it going to cost. Who are the partners going to be? and is it going to be a advertisers paradise with wall to wall products. |
