| | UN Security Council including China,Inda votes Gaddafi to face International Criminal Court for war crime charges..Next in Line is Rajapakshe ???? Monday, 28 February 2011 - 5:18 PM SL Time | | | UNITED NATIONS The U.N. Security Council Saturday unanimously imposed travel bans and asset freezes on Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, members of his family and inner circle amid continuing attacks on anti-government protesters.
The council imposed an asset freeze on Gadhafi, his four sons and one daughter and a travel ban on the whole family along with 10 other close associates. The council also backed an arms embargo.
The resolution adopted by the 15-nation body also called for the immediate referral of the deadly crackdown on demonstrators in Libya to the International Criminal Court in The Hague for investigation and possible prosecution of anyone responsible for killing civilians.
The council said its actions were aimed at `deploring the gross and systematic violation of human rights, including the repression of peaceful demonstrators.` And members expressed concern about civilian deaths, `rejecting unequivocally the incitement to hostility and violence against the civilian population made from the highest level of the Libyan government.`
Libya`s deputy U.N. ambassador, Ibrahim Dabbashi one of the first Libyan diplomats to denounce Gadhafi and defect said Gadhafi`s government no longer has any credibility. `This resolution will be a signal in order to put an end to hisfascist regime which is still which is still in existence in Tripoli,` he said.
Dabbashi added: `This is a leader who loves nobody but himself and he is prepared to take all necessary steps in order to continue this repression against his own people.
`When atrocities are committed against innocents, the international community must act with one voice and tonight it has,` said Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador to the U.N.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon congratulated council members for the unified vote. Earlier in the day, it appeared some countries would not sign on because of concerns about the war crimes investigation.
`The text sends a strong message that gross violations of basic human rights will not be tolerated, and that those responsible for grave crimes will be held accountable,` said Ban. `I hope the message is heard, and heeded, by the regime in Libya.`
There have been reports that Gadhafi`s government forces have been firing indiscriminately on peaceful protesters and that as many as 1,000 people have died.
The day was consumed mainly with haggling behind closed doors over language that would refer Libya`s violent crackdown on protesters to the International Criminal Court, or ICC, at the Hague.
All 15 nations on the council ultimately approved referring the case to the permanent war crimes tribunal. `Gadhafi has lost the confidence of his people and he should go without further bloodshed and violence,` Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said. `The Libyan people deserve a government that is responsive to their aspirations and that protects their universally recognized human rights.` |

Well..Just another five more days left for another Dictator on March 5th who massacred more than 40,000 Innocent people & even murdering unarmed captives to face the music..
It is good to note that even China had more reservations about ICC court but finally had to fall in line along with the rest of world.

Up to 40,000 civilians 'died in Sri Lanka offensive'
Now, Gordon Weiss, who until the end of last year was the UN s spokesman in Colombo, has suggested the figure may be much higher. A lot of civilians died inside the siege zone. I have heard anything between ten and forty thousand people and that s from reliable sources who had a presence inside the zone, he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The Sri Lankan authorities repeated a number of things that were either intentionally misleading or were lies. One senior government civil servant remarked at the end of the war that the government insistence that the figures were very low was a ploy. It was a ploy to allow the government to get on with its business. .
In the interview, the former spokesman also suggested there was a need to investigate allegations of possible war crimes. While there have been widespread calls for such an inquiry, including from some senior figures within the UN, the Sri Lankan authorities have refused such an undertaking.

Satellite photos catch Indian fishermen in Lankan waters
The Fisheries Ministry has released satellite photographs that clearly show the presence of Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan waters.
The pictures taken by the Sri Lanka Air Force track the movements of the Indian fishermen, who are first seen fishing within India s territorial waters, then entering Sri Lankan waters by late afternoon, and completely crossing over into local waters after midnight.
These pictures have been shown to the Indian Government as evidence to support allegations by local fishermen that Tamil Nadu fishermen had intruded into Sri Lanka s territorial waters.(The red dots indicate the presence of Indian boats)

This is old stuff Chennai, tell me something new! Since Gordon Weiss said this in February last year, what have you and your chums managed to achieve? Sri Lanka is making rapid progress in the economic field and the world is no longer bothered about utterances from Tamil Tiger sympathisers. See how quickly UK moved to say that they no longer recognise Gaddafi as Libya's leader, freeze his assets and ban trade with Libya? Are you guys still dreaming of something like this happening to Sri Lanka? You'll have to wait until hell freezes over. |

I think that you've scored an own goal here, Chennai, well done putha! This is exactly what the Sri Lankan Tamil fishermen have been claiming all along. So much for your concern for Sri Lankan Tamils! I think it is plain to see what a hypocrite you are. |
