Crying - Did you ever heard about 'Lord Nelson' or 'Battle of Trafalgar 1805' .In this battle british used their best Battle Ship calld H.M.S. Victory, and captaind by a man calld captan Nelson. This battle was a very hard battle in British History, and finally british won the war but they lost Captan Nelson.
But best thing was British King at that time did not gave the credit to his brother or his son or the queen. He honourd the captan Nelson and honour him with the higst honor with a Lordship to Captan Nelson. Now even you can understand who desire the 'Credit'.
Nelson - 'There are three things, young gentleman, which you are constantly to bear in mind. First, you must always implicitly obey orders, without attempting to form any opinion of your own respecting their propriety. Secondly, you must consider every man your enemy who speaks ill of your King and thirdly, you must hate a Frenchman as you do the Devil.'
Had Nelson survived...
Do you think he would have overthrown the King Kong of England with the help of the French and restored democracy in The Holy Empire of Britannia?
My guess is that Nelson probably would have settled for a statuette with a huge lord hood. |

Are you proposing to import high quality electorate with taste for expensive whores from the USA?
Yes indeed USA has social and political freedoms un-paralled anywhere in the world. Thats why Iranian President Ahmejinnjad was afforded a keynote address in Columbia University as well as with Larry King.
But the vetting process for public office USA is lethal. Any hint of a sexual miscounduct during a campaign will pull him off the roll, no doubt. It has nothing to do with the US governemnt but everything to do with the free media.
Recent drop out of Presidential contender Herman Cain due to alleged sexual misconduct is a classic example. I can give several dozen more examples.
Tann - without baselessly criticizing USA, one must learn from this young but mature and thriving Democracy how the system of 'by the people,of the people, for the people' turned this country into the only superpower in the world and a magnate for the brightest people on the planet.

Would you care to elaborate on how SF intends to do all this?
Yes indeed.
First by having a full understanding of what Democracy is, then fealessly applying its key componenets to the government. The executive, legislature and the judiciary need to constantly check each other for abuse, absoultely no family members appointed by President to key public office positions, keep hands of the law enforcement and judiciary, elections commissioner taking over the police and civil administartion during elections, Elections commisioner only answerable to the parliament, totally respecting the freedom of the press (sue the hell out of them if they violate peoples' rights but dont make them dissapear),President answering questions in the Parliament once a month, re-introducing the Senate made up of elected members but with a high level of education and social standing, and all budgetary allocations to pass through all two houses and the executive, reintroducing a powerful ethics commitee in the house to maintain parliament dignity (free from Presidential veto power)all Ministers and Senior Civil Servants undergoing back ground checks and vetted by Parliament, and more and more.
In short 'the rule of law' will take its rightful place.
We need to restore the Supremacy of the Parliament while maintaing a reasonable level of executive power for president so he can actullay implement his program of work.
With 18th Amendment added to already dangerous JRJ constitution (resulting in dangerously excessive Executive power), this will be very tough to do. But remember Gen Fonseka is a battle hardened General who has guts and determination. By no means he perfect but he the best we got. He will need to select a hand picked team of hard working, educated and politically clean Lankans.
These are not day dreams as many once rotten democracies have re-gained them. Singapore is one of them. |

Well said my friend, In militery it says to the 'Officers' you must be the 'Tracer Bullet'.He knows what it means as a 'Good Officer'. To make a country badly sufferd by Terrorism for a long time we need people who tasted the taste of Terrorism, but a group who won a 'Supper Loto Lottery' by chance and a man ran out of afraid of Terrorism are not a good combination. When will you share this 'radical' idea that the will of the majority must be respected, like the election results?
When will you share this 'revolutionary' act of accepting the legal judgment of the country s Supreme Court? |

Singapore: Yeh, a wealthy police city-state of malls where the streets are clean, can be appealing to some I suppose...
The US: The United States is a republic, not a democracy.
A democracy is a form of government in which the people decide policy matters directly through town hall meetings or by voting on ballot initiatives and referendums.
A republic, on the other hand, is a system in which the people choose representatives who, in turn, make policy decisions on their behalf.
The declaration of Independence and the US constitution do not even mentioned the word 'democracy'.
