Did you see different news reports.

One report says, the introduction period is over today and here after money will be charged.

Another report some Rs 6 million were earned.

It is simply a joke.

Aney manda, if MR can't stop stray animals from wandering on to highways, what good is he as a president? I bet a deer or moose has never wandered on to a canadian highway.

Anud,

Once the curious on-lookers and thrill seekers try this hi-way out
It will be only business people travelling. They could write-off as cost of doing business.

This is only good for that. If the toll rates are out of reach for the small business guy that would be a problem. They should have one rate for peak hours and another rate for nights.

It doesn t look like this Hiway is lit at night. That could cause Hiway- Robbery.

We don t have deer and moose .Ask Bandula Jayasekara if he saw on the Hi-way, he was here.

Just kidding ..We have road kill. Not on the main throughfares. Unless there is trailer crash and animals wander on to the roads.

The rural roads are notorious for unexpected visitors crossing the roads.

LalithS,

Do not you like to have this functions as a standard freeway in SL? I do like it.

But the way this emerged is not good for people in SL who have never ever driven in high speeds.

Though people (In Sri Lanka) call this is a high way, in fact it is not, as it has not met minimum international highway standards. This could be called a freeway with 80 km/h maximum speed. Unfortunately, that did not happen. People believe 100 km/h is a victory. From this picture it can be understood the poor condition of this road. I have driven more than 100k miles on US freeways between 65 - 80 miles/h speed limits but have never seen poor conditions like this. Unless, in a speed controlled construction area, the opposite bound lanes must be at least one standard lane away. But here they are very close. May be couple of feet. Is not that asking for fatal accidents?

I do not know who designed this? But I can find hundreds of flaws. The main reason for this could be the unexperienced designers, engineers, and planners. Recently, one TV channel showed how you should drive on this high way. I felt so sorry with the person who explained things, his poor knowledge and may be zero experience in highway driving over 100 km/h.

If I am given a CHANCE, of course I will be happy to explain people how to drive and what speed you should maintain. I will never recommend anyone to drive on this road over 80 km/h or 50 m/h.

if MR can't stop stray animals from wandering on to highways, what good is he as a president?

He should build 5 m tall walls on both sides of the road. That would help SL get another millions of $$$ loans into someone's account. :)))

Cheap!

In Japan there is the problem of Racoons getting knocked down in Highways..

Still a Japanese who is against the gov will never highlight that point..

Hope Canadian highways are PERFECT...I mean 100% FREE OF accidents etc!

AnuD, The slant is not enough take at 100KM...Then again, if you have a good handling car with wider tire base it might be possible. But, I am sure not on a Jeep or Honda RV types and on a rainy day one might hit the guard rail. I have seen these jeeps all wheels up on black ice days.

Our drives are an undisciplined bunch. I wonder if the bajaj guys are allowed to get into The Gateway to Wonder hiway.

Kotia,

I drive 75KM one way to get to work everyday. I do in 45-50 min if the roads are good. Most of the time I go with the flow around 120-140 KM/HR ( That is over the speed limit of 100KM) One day during a snow storm It took me 4 hours. We have a Tool 407 Hi-Way where they charged 11 cents a KM. when they started and now 21 to 22 cents on regular and light zone rates.

They say that Trans-Canada hiway is the longest in the world. Then we have the Trans Siberian and the Australian A1 to dispute. I have gone from Toronto to Vancouver in about 4 days. That is along and a tiring drive. I will never do it again. Once you pass the main cites the roads are two lanes. But the scenery is unbelievably beautiful. Especially around Banff, Alberta and the prairies.

Kotiya, is I90 to Florida is considered as a Freeway? I drove from Montreal to New York through Albany in middle of Winter in the 80s and that road was excellent. Once you get over the border and hit the hills there a bit of snow and when close to New York there was no snow at all.

the opposite bound lanes must be at least one standard lane away. But here they are very close. May be couple of feet. Is not that asking for fatal accidents?

Now that is dangerous thing. If one lose control and stray on to the incoming lanes that could be fatal. Here I know some frigging guys get drunk and drive the wrong direction. This happens mainly at night after the bars are closed.
