Roshan!

How come you are not aware of these that gets effected from 18th amendment.?

I know! I am well aware abt it! This is Y I clearly asked U, what is the JVP and UNP doing? Do they educate the people abt the pros & cons of the 18th???

Angered by the Rajapaksa-Wickremesinghe dialogue, Democratic National Alliance (DNA) parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake, flayed the latter for what he called his 'betrayal'. He said by 'running to Rajapaksa every time he called,' Wickremesinghe had given legitimacy to the constitutional changes. JVP leader Somawansa Amerasinghe told a news conference on Friday that though the UNP leadership was weak its MPs were keen to join hands with his party to carry forward the protest against the amendments.

These barkings are not enuf...

:)))

With no common approach possible with the UNP within the short time available, the JVPers were distributing leaflets and holding 'pocket' or small group meetings to educate the public of the 'evils' of the constitutional changes.

Are they explaining the matters such a way that people are getting convinced abt the dangers of 18th????

:)))

Still what can they do when the UNP palimentarians itself had said they will vote for the 18th!!!

The proposed constitution is not allowing him to stay in power as long as he wants.....He has to face for the elections as usual...

the problem with current amendments is not this one....
but with the proposed amendments to the 17th (there is no argument in that 17th is not a practical thing) , rather than reducing presidential powers , it enhance it.

Strong oppsition will be ok for a country that has already developed....what we need for Sri Lanka is a strong good government with a proper leader....:-)))

i too agree with this where civil liberties should only follow the economic advances. but the problem is once we change the Constitution i don't think we will ever get a chance to change it again.
thats why we need to take things once in a life time opportunity to change the whole system for the betterment of the country..rather than doing ad hoc changes!

National Bhikku front is against the 18th amendment.

MY concern is right now what president is doing to General Fonseka.

HOw many other things are turning out in Sri Lanka.

There is no democracy in Sri Lanka.

This 18th amendment and the frustration of some Singalas is clearly the result of not having VP around... When VP was around, it did not matter how many amendments Singalaas had, VP had the final veto!

Now, VP not around Singalaas do not have any authority to enforce law and order, quickly and decisively!

The main argument of the NGO goons against the 18th amendment is that it will make the incumbent president using the state machinery to his advantage to get elected again siting the instances of JR,chandrika and MR...
however this argument is severely flawed where if its the state machinery is the deciding factor in getting elected in this country, then the governing party should have one all the elections and the a some one from the governing party should have won the presidency all the time...which is not the case
if you look at it carefully what happens is during the first term the incumbnets tend to be more people friendly due to that fact they need to be elected again and tend to go wild during the second terms (chandrika and JR) since they cant be get elected again..there fore the removing this limit is a quite good thing since presidensts will have be mindful of what people think all the times!
if you take the voting patterns, lankan people have most of the time have chosen the best leader of the lot at that time an in that context no matter what the govt propaganda was..people are not stupid..
