Controversial 18th Amendment of Sri Lanka - All day debate on September 8

I support most of what this government does. However, I really do not see the priority they have put on this amendment when there are many other issues to deal with. I hope someone who supports this amendment can explain, Why Now? Votes?

IT is the not the amendment that is the problem.

It is the people who implement these amendments are at fault.

Because of that, we need a very good LAw - enforcement, rule -book enforcement at every level and every where.

IF you see, every where wrong things happen. They escape. That needs to be stopped.

Remember, that is on top abusing their powers.

both SLFP and and UNP wanted to woo Tamils just before the election.

UNP, and their common Candidate General Fonseka Played a different theme. SLFP played a different theme.

but, UPFA used it for their advantage to get rid of their formidable threat.

Since JRJ, every president had done that to get rid of their opponent. Every President used a new tactic.

People should not get hallucinatedand say Yes every time. Instead they should stop that happening over and over again.

NeverAgain, This is a Question, for which no one provides any acceptable answer. I think the Number of Presidential Terms were added to this amendment, just to make sure that the Public Discussions may not go beyond the 'Terms issue'.

My Question is why we need to replace the exsisting Constitutional Council with the Parliamentary Council comprising five members only.

As seen from the news, it also provides the opportunity for the President to appoint members to the independent commissions in consultation with this committee. This will add more Power to the executive Presidency, but, if the reason for President Appointed Parliamentary Council is to provide a political solution to the ethnic problem, then I will strongly agree. But, it looks like this is a way of taking some Judiciary Powers into the hand of Executive Presidency. The reasons for that is not clear to me at this stage.

I would also like to see the answer from an Expert like ASTRO LTTE.

Parliament should have power with 2/3rd majority to to null and void what ever president says.

Judiciary should be independent from the President and from everybody.

There are no perfect systems in the world.

Dishonest people can always use the system for their advantage.

Only important thing is if any system does not allow even not to reasonable and what need to do, then it need to be changed.
