have you heard about marketing, sales stratergies?
why dialog have several millions of subscribers more than etisalat (formely tigo, celltell) even though dialog entered the market so many years after Celltell?
exactly my point, seems you don't have clue about the local market. every business have its own strategies and the fact is lankan and with your argument with its better marketing dialog should have benn able to penetrate better in to the internet market as well but the fact is they are even thinking of terminating its Wimax operations...guess you have no cluse about the market dynamics and just assume what worked in a dufferent market will work for others as well! |

This telcom debate...
Look at it from another angle.
Is the total phone penetration and internet usage (both mobile & fixed) adequate ?
How does it compare with other countries in the region and with other countries in the same income category?
This debate is over the shrinking market share of one service provider-right?
Is that really important from the countries point of view?

Poppy, fixed lines includes ADSL, IPTV.
If I an SLT in markeing I would bundle marketing plan.
all ADSL connection & charges include a free phone connection and a desk phone. cost it lower based on 2million ADSL connection. when SLT sells ADSL they automatically increase phone lines as well.
I dont know from which planet you have landed. most people who get ADSL / IPTV already have a fixedline as SLT fixed lines are a commom comodity. by aggressive marketing on ADSL / IPTV - they will get more ADSL / IPTV connection but i doubt whehter fixed line connection will increase as it will only be a value added srvice for existing customers.
even in remote villages other than for the lowest income earners, any family will have a SLT fixed line or a CDMA connection. SL has developed in the telephone industry. you might have to visit a few rural villages to see this. |

dialog created market dynamics and captured mobile market.
SLT did not do same in fixed line market.
SLT is loosing it's ADSL market due to mobile broadband marketing by dialog and mobitel.
wimax will end up as a deadhorse. TDD-LTE will replace wimax.. |

you don't see things in marketing & sales perspective.

ADSL have billions of subscribers and will evolve to ADSL2+,xDSL, EPON, GPON. it had already proven it will evolve.
wimax, the telco manufactures such as ericsson, alcatel, nokia siemens dumped and selected TDD-LTE as standard instead of wimax. so wimax is risk in investment. |
