the reason why you don't use fixed lines is SLT is doing a lousy job in marketing, while dialog, mobitel, suntel do good marketing stealng away the fix line subscribers. SLT call rates same as decades ago...
well people prefer mobiles to fixed lines simply for convenience. you prob havent been to SL in a decade to realize the low rates. peak SLT to SLT Rs.1.00 off peak Rs0.50 to other networks Rs.2.00 (stipulated by TRC for all telephone companies).
http://www.slt.lk/data/forhome/021dcalls_customer.htm
but I do agree SLT can improve on value added services category with
new strategic marketing plan making use of SLT s fully integrated/diversified telecom services of fixed wire-line and wireless and mobile telephony, ADSL and mobile broadband access and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV).
IPTV is better in way than dialogTV as they even have a facility to go back and watch programmes that were telecasted before. |

Yes it was Dr Badiuddin mahmud who bought the standardization when he was the education Minister..I would really like to see the numbers on your claim of Sinhalese were the majority affected and I don't have those numbers..but if anyone denies Tamils were not affected by this system that will be wrong
well Adhil..I am a bit confused..if Sinhalese/Tamils both sides were affected..what was Good in the system...How was it approved when Both sides have complains..It does not add up for me.. |

Panna,
Adhil, lets call an apple an apple here. You are from the minority.
Have you ever been wronged by the majority? Has the GOSL or its agents ever used your ethnicity as a tool against you?
Honestly Panna, a big NO. On the contrary we have got all what we wanted in life. What's funny is that we are Paramapara UNPers!!! |

I don't like him singing for Premadasa & Rajapakse at times, but he is always consistent that we should have a political solution for minorities...
Must be the view they get from high up on that NGO moral pedestal!
Since the numerically superior Sinhala Buddhist majority was guilty in the eyes of the LTTE terrorists, which they have been so for centuries, there was nothing in real terms they could do to prove their innocence.
Since the conflict, at least in part, was not genuinely political, there will not be a political solution. That is even if the numerically superior Sinhala Buddhist majority decided to settle for the ethnic minority rule.
The LTTE terrorists sought only apocalyptic nihilism, which is Elam and nothing more. Therefore, nothing GOSL or anybody else matters.
War has solved many things it is an unfortunate and terrible part of life on earth.

Berty, there are monthly rentals and the call charges are not that much of a difference. However the selling factor is the convenience of carrying your phone.
Calls within a certain area code is not free here, still.
well if the charges are almost the same..I feel it is better to have a Mobile phone than a ground phone but let us say Moby.if your parents are at home..and You take the mobile phone away..How ru going to contact them in a hurry..if you go out of colombo..ru going to get them a mobile phone too..
may be depends on the situation..if you have parents or other elders at home..better to have a ground phone..(May be it will be always engaged..lolz..but you still need one..)

Berty,
Badi brought standardization to benefit the muslims in the east (vote catching because he was to contest Batti in 1977 which he did and lost). He didn't care a damn about the sinhalese or tamils. It was always for the muslims where he was concerned. We are here talking about this minister did this and that, but Badi gave trainee english teacher's appointments to muslims who did not have even O/L english pass. |

After the Hiroshima bombing, President Truman announced, 'If they do not accept our terms, they may expect a rain of ruin from the air the likes of which has never been seen on this earth.'
A very chilling insight into a dark chapter of the most powerful nation's recent history.
