The 'us-and-them' ideology based on narrow ethnic nationalism failed to adequately recognize that the state could not be a carbon copy of the LTTE, which of course had contempt for civilian lives, Tamil, Muslim or Sinhalese.
Fighting evil with a greater evil... simple logic.
I saw that.
Do you think we would like be seen as another LTTE to the rest of the world? |

Adhill,
DayanJ has this tendency to shoot his mouth off and get into trouble. He had a good job at the UN and actually did well there until he shot his mouth off on a minor issue and had to come back home.
but Dayan did a tremendous job defending SL in UN during the last stage of war.
I don't like him singing for Premadasa & Rajapakse at times, but he is always consistent that we should have a political solution for minorities... |

The end justifies the means, my friend. People won't remember methods in a few more years, they will remember the result.
Human memory is a fickle thing.
Else, USAF/RAF would have been in the Hague for eternity for Dresden fire bombings, Tokyo fire bombings and the real crowd pleaser, the A-Bombs.
Were they not war crimes of the highest magnitude? |

political solution for minorities..
people who harp on this themselves don't know what these solutions are. Right?
What political solutions does the minorities need now that they do not have already? |

Roshan,
Dayan is an opportunist, period. This solution for minorities is something I still don't understand (though I come from a minority community). What I know is that a certain community (Not naming them as I may be called a racist) had it fine for almost 200 years until 1970 and when the bubble burst, they couldn't take it. Remember all kinds of militancy began around 1970. My favourite is standardization. What most people don't realise is that it was brought about by a muslim minister and the people most affected by that were the sinhalese (there are numbers on this somewhere - I have read it). |

Adhil, lets call an apple an apple here. You are from the minority.
Have you ever been wronged by the majority? Has the GOSL or its agents ever used your ethnicity as a tool against you? |

On ground phones Vs Mobiles..How much do they charge for a call when You have a ground phone or say quarterly Fee...if the charges are almost similiar then what your saying is a better option..use only your mobile phone..
In HK..Ground phones are very useful cos the Local calls are FREE..only quarterly fee and it is cheap..the ground phone is controlled by CSL in HK and they are one of the best if not the best Mobile providers too..
takes one day to fix a ground line and one day to move it from one place to another too.. |

Roshan (sorry contd.),
But standardization was the main platform for secession of this community. That is not quite right, is it?

Berty, there are monthly rentals and the call charges are not that much of a difference. However the selling factor is the convenience of carrying your phone.
Calls within a certain area code is not free here, still. |
