A major part of the Tamil Diaspora is happy with the government`s measures to improve the living standards of the Tamil people in the Northern and Eastern Provinces after the war and willing to support the government, the government spokesman said today.

Addressing the media today, government spokesman Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the Tamil Diaspora is now divided into two groups and the people who were forced to help terrorist activities financially are now willing to contribute to the welfare of their fellow Tamils in the North and East.

Referring to Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP, the chief arms procurer for the vanquished terror outfit LTTE, the Minister said even KP has realized the past mistakes and joined the group who is willing to help government`s development activities.

Regarding the former LTTE arms dealer, the Minister explained that there is a provision in the country`s law to allow the government to give protection to any person who can be enlisted as a `crown witness` in the interest of the country and for the country`s progress.
