When the case against Gen. Fonseka on the white flag story purportedly related to Fredrica Janz of the Sunday Leader newspaper by the accused Fonseka was taken for trial today (29) in the High Court 01 before the three judge panel , the Deputy Solicitor General Navaratne Bandara who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General (AG) handed over the indictment to Gen. Fonseka.
The indictment which was handed over before the three judges , Deepali Wijesundara, P B Warawewa and Razeen was supported by three cassettes containing speeches of Gen. Fonseka made during the Presidential elections to the electronic media as evidence. The Senior Attorney at Law Nalin Ladhuhetti appearing for Fonseka pointed out to Court that a copy of the notes of Fredirica Janz from her notebook had not been submitted with the schedule of evidence handed over , whereupon the Court ordered the relevant copy of the notes to be forwarded to Court.
The Lawyer for Fonseka said , he is not requesting for bail for Fonseka who is in the custody of the Army detained at the Navy Headquarters and under the supervision of the Prison officers . But, he requested Court to issue an order allowing Fonseka who is a Parliamentary representative to attend all Parliamentary sessions and meetings including select Committee meetings and advisory meetings . The courts granted permission and acceded to the request.
