Colombo will be soon transformed into a city of fun and frolic with a special area set apart for night life on the weekend in a carnival-like atmosphere with food courts, live musical shows and shopping, the Colombo Municipality said yesterday.
Special administrator Omar Kamil said Green Path had been selected to host this project scheduled to begin next month and would be held on Fridays and Saturdays from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
He said leading hotels and restaurants would have their stalls in the area and the people could enjoy a variety of cuisines.
Mr. Kamil said there would be stalls selling fancy items as well, with entrainment being provided by Disc Jockeys and live bands
People can now walk round the city in a relaxed manner free from fear or tension now that the war is over, he said and added that work on getting the project off the ground is well in progress with the road and pavements along Green Path being redone.
Mr. Kamil said access roads including Hunupitiya Cross Road, Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha and the Library Junction along Ananda Kumaraswamy Mawatha were also being redone giving a general facelift to the area.
