But unfortunately they believed the army could be somehow forced to stop the offensive and a deal worked out through a third party.

Sri Lanka Army Commander s chair is reportedly missing. The commander had participated at the annual awards ceremony of Ranaviru Apparels on the 23rd.

It is tradition to take the chair for the Army Commander from the Army Headquarters for events attended by him. A committee was also appointed for the purpose.

However, the Army Headquarters had not received the chair after the ceremony. An inquiry is currently underway to find out how the Army Commander s chair has gone missing when there are close to 200 to 300 Army personnel providing security to him.
Sources from the Army Headquarters said there have still not been any tips on the missing Army Commander s chair.

A person from the South, who has allegedly committed acts of terrorism with the LTTE was arrested by the Colombo Police Crimes Division at Dedigama in the Navagamuwa area yesterday.

The terrorist suspect is a Sinhalese who had cooperated in committing acts of terrorism in the North and the South for more than 18 years. On information received the CCD had made investigations on his movements for some time before he was arrested.

Within a year of the conclusion of the war, the majority of the people displaced by the conflict are back at their villages and ex-combatants of the LTTE are undergoing rehabilitation and the international community, too, is supportive of Sri Lanka s efforts. None of these would have been possible without the political leadership given by President Rajapaksa.
