Rs. 560 Million for Educational Development in the Northen Province - Sri Lanka

he Government has taken measures to develop schools and education facilities in the Northern Province under an accelerated development programme. Under this programme 375 schools in the province will be developed, around 9000 teachers will be trained and schools will be provided with necessary facilities at a cost of Rs 560 million. With funds from Asian Development Bank while some of the schools will be reconstructed with Indian Government funds.

Selected schools in the province will be provided with photocopy
machines, fax machines, science laboratory equipment, and computer
laboratory equipment. Rs 14 million will be used to provide in-service
training to teachers. It has been planned to conduct 45 workshops in
this regard.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry has made arrangements to provide
10,000 tables and 10,000 chairs to schoolchildren in the Northern
Province within the next three months. Another 2,000 tables and 2,000
chairs will be provided to teachers.
