The former President of Sri Lanka, Chandrika Kumarathunga, has accused the government of completely forgetting the legacy of the word s first woman Prime Minister.
The younger daughter of Sirimavo Bandaranaike told BBC Sinhala service that the government has an obsession against the Bandaranaike family.
She said the government could still celebrate the 50 anniversary of the Sri Lankan achievement of voting the first ever woman PM in July 1960.
She was not remembered except for ordinary people. The government of her own party -my party also - neither the party nor the government did anything at all to remember her or her achievement. I think it is very petty minded and it is disgusting, Mrs. Kumarathunga said.
She put us on the world map. She was a leader of the Non Aligned Movement, she took leadership in many other international negotiations.
Sri Lanka s first woman executive president says that the greatest legacy of her mother is that Mrs. Bandaranaike worked hard to strengthen democracy in the island.
She was a very sincere and strong democrat. At no point in her political career did she condone any anti-democratic actions.
Mrs. Kumarathunga refused to comment whether she would once again enter active politics.
Mrs. Bandaranaike s appointment opened doors for thousands of women across the globe to follow her footsteps, a statement issued by Visaka Dharmadasa, Chairperson of Association of War Affected Women said.
Celebrations will be held throughout the year to encourage women around the world to enter in to the realm of politics, it said.
Earlier, a leading opposition parliamentarian called for a special quota in the parliament for women.
Rosie Senanayake, opposition MP for Colombo district, told BBC Sandeshaya that Sri Lanka has failed to improve the representation of women from the early twentieth century despite producing the first ever woman prime minister in the world.
Sri Lanka being the first country in the region to introduce universal suffrage still only has about 4.5 percent of women in the parliament, she told the BBC days before the 08 April parliamentary elections.

| The only way Sri Lanka was put on the map was by Mrs.B becoming the first woman prime minister in the world. She never was for democracy. The only way Sri Lankans remember her is by the long bread ques, food shortages and rationing of comodities.Remember her for her slogan,Don't have bread eat Cake. She never did anything worthy for the country to be remembered at any stage.Husband created a mess and she further messed up her husbands creation and brought Sri Lanka to a breaking point. |

Remember her for her slogan,Don't have bread eat Cake
What a stupid thing to say. What a distortion of facts?
This was never Mrs. Bandaranaike's slogan.
It is the famous words of a French Princess 'Qu'ils Mangent de la brioche' (let them eat Cake) when she was told that peasents have no bread to eat. The statement is attributed to Marie Antoinette, a Queen of France who uttered those words during a famine that hit her country.
Go read your history books before you write garbage - brother!

My dear Friends, not only what we commented,Mrs Bandaranayaka have to be rememberd for the gigantic 'Summit' which I believe Mrs Bandaranayaka as the president. I can remember at that time no Milk Powder to Srilankan infants but her righthand cousin Filix .R. Dias. Bandaranayaka's farm pigs have been treated with then 'Luxspray', and to supply food to the 'Summit members' have been undertaken by Filix.R.D. Bandaranayaka, and he supplied one Egg for hundred rupees. Not only that Mrs Bandaranayaka is going to the 'Genesbook' for her treatmet given to 'Beggers in Colombo' during the 'Summit Time'. The police collected all the beggers in the city and transported them to 'Ampara' and dropped them, to show off the 'Summit Members' that Srilanka was a country which has no 'Poor People' or 'Beggers'.During her time there was a very famous saying in all of the citizens in Srilanka, it is,

If CBK thinks that the Rajapaksa administration has forgotten her dear Mom, the dear daughter should revive her legacy.
CBK has forgotten a major point of the 'world's first woman PM'. SRDB, the dear Mom of the silent daughter, Sirimao was not an elected PM. She was put on a seat marked 'Prime Minister' by her own party men to create a bogus world record!
Nobody has ever said the Sirimao did not do anything to the country: she made long bread queues, she abused the western powers, she fought with her own family members over politics... oh, the list is too long to put here.
She did some good things also for the country.
If CBK has the intention of re-joining the political path, she can pay hommage to her dear Mom in a grand scale and declare even two public holidays - one for her dear Mom and the 26th of September for her Papa!
CBK can blame the present government for the selfishness in forgetting Sirimao, but CBK herself was a 1000% (!) selfish daughter as well: the old, aging 'first woman PM ' wanted to fulfil a cherised dream in becoming the '1st Executive woman President of Sri Lanka'even for a short time before her death.
Did CBK allow Sirimao to rise to that highest Executive Job of the country which CBK was holding at the time?
NO!
Selfish daughter, I can say!

By the way, as a former student of the Sorbonne in Paris, Chadrika's French is quite good. I remember an interview on TF1 some time ago. |

When JR became president he striped Srimavo of her civil rights to prevent her contesting elections against him.
When Mahinda Rajapakse was elected president he arrested Sareth Fonseka and is being held in custody until he is found guilty of catalogue of charges being framed and loses his rights to contest any more election.
The following dynasties were the curse that ruined or ruins Sri Lanka:
Senanayake Dynasty
Bandaranayake dynasty
Rajapakse Dynasty |

Mrs Bandaranayaka was entering to the Srilankan history as the first woman politician who orderd police to kill and destroyed more than 25000 sinhalese youth in Srilanka
One estimate puts the number of Sinhalese youths killed by Mrs B was 60,000.
If you are right the estimate that more than 40,000 Tamils were killed in Wanni by Mr R and his brothers is the record in our history. |
