His statement on joint statement distorted Sri Lanka DNA Minister Vijithe Herath

he General Secretary of the DNA Vijithe Herath says certain media has distorted views he made at a press conference held 11.07.2010 When Lankatruth inquired from him regarding a news item appearing in today s The Island.
The Island has published its lead titled DNA admits no mention about advisory panel in declaration. Mr. Herath said during the press conference he had yesterday (11th) a journalist had asked him whether the joint statement issued by the President and the Secretary General of the UN on 23rd May, 2009 does not mention anything regarding forming a panel of experts. Mr. Herath had responded stating normally joint statements mention only policy matters and programmes relevant to such statements are decided later. Accordingly, in the joint statement it is stated that both Sri Lanka and the UNO would jointly act regarding human rights in Sri Lanka. It is under this policy that the UNO had got the opportunity to appoint a panel of experts says Mr. Herath.
