Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Maithripala Sirisena has decided to set up Health Service Employees Advisory Councils (HSEAC) comprising at least two members of each of the sector s 65 trade unions
Its objective is to incorporate ideas, comments, suggestions and constructive criticism in the future formulation of health policies, the Ministry said.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena told The Island that for want of Health Service Employee Advisory Councils, mutual understanding between the Ministry and Trade Unions had diminished and conflicts had emerged. Their response had been positive, he said.
The Advisory Councils will be set up on July 2 at the BMICH. Constructive criticisms from trade unions and pin pointing of irregularities, corruptions and malpractices would be of vital importance to streamline the health service because the public image of the health service had been unsatisfactory, he said.
