Most of immigrants get 12/13 per hour jobs. It is the average. but there are some Sri lankans work in fields like engineering,accounting,IT,medical etc gets 25-30 per hour. but not all immigrants. there are so many people with masters and phds work in factories for 12/13/14/per hour. However there are some very succesful Sri lankans who run business here. But to run a business is not easy like Sri Lanka. Need more money and tough regulations. Everyone cannot be a doctor or engineer.
If you can build your life (get qualifications in Canada) within first 3-4 years you have an opportunity to win but not garanteed. It depends person to person.First 2-3 years are very hard.
If you can earn at least 4000 (total family income) you are in the safe side. If you need to save money you should earm at least 6000 family income. When family income is 6000 you have to pay income tax 22% approximately.(at least 15%) That is around 1200 deduction from 6000.
By the way there are immigrants from different countries who work for 12/hr(2 members in the family) so they earn 24/hr family income and survive
