President recalls advice given by Ven Kotapola Vachishsara when he entered Parliament as a young MP
President Mahinda Rajapaksa told the newly elected UPFA Parliamentarians yesterday that in the future journey of the country pioneered by the Mahinda Chintana program their single aim should be the development of the country.
The people did their duty by the country now the time has arrived for them to repay that duty by the people, the President said.
A special workshop was held for elected members of the UPFA at the Presidential Secretariat where the President addressed the MPs to the new Parliament.
The workshop was organised to educate new MPs on Parliamentary traditions, standing orders and other functions.
President Rajapaksa impressed on the MPs the need for their dedicated service to bring to fruition the fruits of development that is harboured in the hearts of the people.
The President also recalled to them the advice tendered to him by Ven Kotapola Vachishsara when he first entered Parliament as a young MP.
The Ven Thera advised him not to misbehave but to conduct himself in a manner that would preserve his self-respect and dignity.
Cherishing most this advice, President Rajapaksa said he would be giving this same advice to his newly elected MPs.
No MP has a right to breach the trust placed in him by the people of this country, the President said and called upon them to follow the guidance of senior Ministers and MPs in rallying to serve the country of their birth.
